The top image is not BATUS....it is the Salisbury Plain in the UK....different markings on the tank.

The bottom image is a BATUS Challenger II

Jason did you notice in the BATUS pic the water bottle on the antenna?

Yup, it is not unique to Canadian AFVs....the Brits have been doing it for a while too....but they might have a different use for it in Suffield. They might put red, yellow, or green glow sticks in the water bottles for night fighting instead of IR glow sticks to let safety staff and other troops know the conditions of their weapons.

This helps explain something the SP tanks are tan with green over the BATUS are green with tan over. I was confused by this.

I think they are both tan over green.

As you can see the BATUS vehicles use the high visibility call signs and ZAP codes.

BATUS decals were in the Trumpeter kit (good for one thing) other then the big call signs I'm trying to figure out what goes were, any suggestions?
I'm not depicting any particular vehicle, I prefer to work with the decals I have, but I do want to make sure the markings are correct.

The Trumpeter decals are not complete.....the callsigns go on both sides of the side skirts....the left, right, and rear of the turret.....I think the Trumpeter decals are short the rear turret callsigns.

The ZAP codes are the three digit numbers on the front side skirt sections....they vary and are coded to indicate the crew of the tank.

Other markings would be the registration numbers.

Some BATUS tanks have the fume extractors painted white....but this depends on the call sign...usually SHQ tanks....not all of them will have them.

The best thing for you to do is try to find an image of a BATUS Challenger 2 that is close to what you want in respect to the decals you have and go for it.

Oh, and don't forget to paint on the "45's".

Looking forward to the 45's. I can mask the rear turret number.

Heres a pic of the base paint so far.

The painting of the fume extractors was for the 'Safety Staff' et al to help in identifying the different Sqns! The callsign boards were also different in that one had a white border and one didn't.
The reason for turning the rear skirting plate upside down or taking it off completely has nothing to do do with cutting down the CR2's fuel consumption! It stops mud building up around the sprocket and preventing you from throwing a track!

Marking locations are pretty straight forward. Front, back and side pics. This one is a 'spare' kept on base, so the c/s areas are kept black until it's decided what it needs to be.

Another example of 'in the field' markings:

Great pics Jim thanks for posting them. There going to help. I think I'm going to paint the large marking with my air brush and scrape the Trumpeter decals.
