Chris, it looks like you got a good, clean build going so far. Could you provide us with some additional details about your kit such as:

-scale
-kit manufacturer
-what changes you are making to the kit (i.e. replacing tow cables, replacing side skirts, etc)
-what PE set are you using
etc. etc. etc.

It appears to me that you have added some additional details that were not part of the kit.

I really like what you have done so far. I noticed the 'tint' to your periscopes. That looks pretty good. I hope to see some additional information and some additional updates as your build progresses.

Chris you don't need to keep deleting posts. There is an edit button that you can use

Mint Chally !.

I like the periscopes. I see your using some Accurate Armour bits. Nice touch on the dust extruder on the gun!

Great work!

Here's some info on my build:

To do this build there are 3 steps I followed .

1.upgrade to 2007 Challenger .

2. Add the detail that Tamiya left off.

3.Convert from a armoured battle tank to a training tank.

I am building a BATUS Challenger year 2007 since the Tamiya kit hit the shelves the Brits have made a few changes to the MBT. The most important one is the radio they now use the BOWMAN so the antenna mounts need to be changed from the kit ones to BOWMAN. This was easy to do with some scape bits. Next are a couple of hatch doors on the top of the turret.

The detailing was next this is the extras you would do regardless of what Challenger your building.I started by adding sceens from Eudard, added some wire for the headlights and tail lights added some bolts here and there, handles and tie downs in the rear. I added some foil around the barrel end to make it look more natural. The periscopes are ribbon behind the kit supplied glass.

The conversion kit I used was the Accurate Armour kit A053. This kit is intended for the Trumpeter kit so I only need about half of it (the other bits will be going into a Challenger 1 build) I also used a few parts from the Trumpeter kit this I don't care about because this kit is never going to be build by me.In the rear I left off the fuel tanks and build the hanging brackets, The front lower haul was the most added detail. Then came the side skirts I used the metal one in the AA kit and some plastic card for the mounting brackets.

This is a great conversion and very easy to do.

Chris

Hey Chris glad to see you sorted out your problem .

You said your using the AA conversion kit based on the Trumpeter kit but cant you get the same conversion kit for the Tamiya one!.

Are you scratch building the fuel cell mounts?

I'm not sure about AA kits you may be able to get it for Tamiya. I'm leaving the brakets off all together based on a picture I found on the internet. The build is all but done painting is already underway.

Jamyes yes that is what it is British Army Training unit Suffield =BATUS in Suffield Alberta Canada.

Jim Thanks for the compliments and the offer of pics. I think I might be alright I have the Tankograd British Special #9008 on BATUS it is amazing and cheap compared to some ref. books. Its loaded with pics of the Warrior as well. To be honest when you get to this point in a build you really start to get tired of looking at the same pics trying to pick out detail.

One thing I have been trying to figure out is some of the pictures I have show the side skirts paint pattern completely different then the upper tank portion. do you think it may be posssible that the skirts are taken of one tank and put on another?

Chris the skirt you have shown is the none armoured type used on all Challenger vehicles to cut down on weight and fuel usage when not at war (at least that is what I was told), so I see no reason why these plates would not get mixed and matched even if each vehicle has a specific set. The rear plate you have show up side down against the hull side, I have never seen this before where did you get the ref for that?

Darren
This is very common with the Challengers. I have a few Tanogrades on British armor and there are a few pics of the last skirt taken off or flipped up I posted a pic of one there a few posts back with this done.

I saw the picture with the plate missing, I have just never seen it upside down. I was not indicating it was wrong, just that I had never seen or heard of it before.

Darren take a closer look of the pic I posted with the tank on the move the skirt is on there its just hard to see with the camo. I did'ent think you were making a correction on my build but if you were its welcome.
