Hi dave,

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to decal it a vehicle of 2IG (Armd) so I will have to add a plate or somethign to the front. WIll check a few references.

The PE is very small lol, lol, I may use lead wire for the straps, I'll see. As I want to do the top up I was thinking of adding some tissue over it to give it more texture, I shall see how that comes out lol, lol.

Cheers

Al

Hi Guys,

A bit more work. Added the bonnet catches and fashioned 2 side lights from grenades! Did a little basic weathering underneath before I added the wheels. Still the exhause to fit and some more work required there.

The wheels have 3/4 raised ejection marks on the inside that will need removed. A sharp X-acto blade will take care of those.

This is a cracking little kit for the price. Yes, a lot of clean up and thinning down of parts but so fat it has been a fun build.

There is enough play in the front wheels to allow you to angle them slightly, not 100% correct but better than straight on, I think!!! lol, lol

Now the fun part begins, sorting out a driver and adding some stores and kit to the vehicle.

Al

Hi Guys,

Well with the wheels on and setting it's time to think about some crew.

There are acouple of options for British/Commonwealth drivers.

The Ultracast figure

and 2 from Doug's Originals

Driver

Passenger

These were all designed with the Tamiya jeep in mind I believe so I shall build them up and see who fits best. Additionally I have some Bren Crews that I haven't used so I may make one up from parts.

Hi Alan. Another excellent blog. The jeep is coming together nicely ... good that you weathered underneath ... this is forgotten too often. Both choices of crew look good ... but the Doug´s originals have the edge ... that they are actually doing something ... but I guess that would also depend on the scene you are making.

Hi Frank,

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the Ultracast chap as he is very 'Mick' like. The other two are bit too parade ground looking although as the legs are separate I might switch the upper body. The Officer is also lacking a tie. They would be much better with the BD tunic top open.

Thanks for dropping in and glad you're enjoying the build. The hard part ie the windows has yet to come. I never have much success with those!!

Cheers

Al

Hi Alan,

Great progress on the Jeep. I like the Ultracast best if he going to be the only figure. The figures from Doug's look like they are talking to someone.

Hi Tony,

Thanks, made a bit of a FUBAR, I should have fitted the dash earlier . A bit of filling and repainting required. Fitted the seats so it's looking quite jeep like and started work on the tarp.

Figures are soaking and I may see what alternative top bodies I have for the other 2 although i like the Ultracast chap too.

He Al,
Any one of the three would do the trick, all depends on the scene you're trying to display.
Looking forward to the finished build.

Hi John,

Yes, there is that!

I was going to use the Tamiya windowscreen I had left over from the RA jeep. The detail seems better.

On the tarp the front end needs straightened up a bit, the lip underneath was at a bit of an angle. Hopefuly all will fit when done.

Some updates in the morning.

Hi Guys,

This is the stage I got to last night. I added some cross bars to the inside of the tarp. I had thought about cutting out the 'holes' for the supports but then changed my mind. The seats and tarp have been dabbed with some Mr Surface to try and give them a slightly more material look. I shall see how the Tamiya Windowscreen works out. Need to paint the instrument panel, add the driver and steering wheel and on the outside mount the spare wheel and jerrycan. I cut off the moulded on spare wheel mount and will use a spare tamiya one or the PE one. I had considered adding a radio but that might be a waste as it will be covered over. Might add the antenna mount though.

Edit: BTW be careful when thinning down the tarp rods, they have a small locating pin on lower fitting and I snapped one off when I was getting rid of the flash and leftover spur.

Some Hours Later!

Added the Tamiya windowscreen it's not a perfect fit, need some alteration but the detail is better. Added a couple of small fittings to the sreen and a racked No 4 rifle.

Played around with some stores and working on the driver. On the tarp painted in the bars and added the rear window. I was unsure what to use, the kit one is 'glass' obviously not appropriate so I used a bit of the plastic bad the kit came in!!

Been looking at who was driving what and M5559240 driven by Gdsm Butler might be a suitable candidate. At least 2 of the other Bn HQ Jeeps were signals, One for the Sigs Sgt and one for the 2 R Sigs attached to the Bn.

Hey Al,

Looking really nice. Did you build the tarp from scratch? I like the driver, good paint job. Like the extras as well. Very cool.

Hi Tony,

Thanks. No, the tarp is the kit one with a few bits added. It has quite a nice texture but I added a little Mr Surface to give it some more depth.

A bit more work on the figure, he has some arms now!!. Need to let him dry well and them add some unit insignia and shadows, plus finish off the helmet and face.

Reqrganised the stowage a little, so stuff to paint up there. Not sure about anything on the bonnet or front. Need to add a bridge plate but hopefully if I can get the rest of the stowage finished, then a day or two should see the top fitted and the elements on the rear.

This is how things stand now:

Al,

You are flipping machine. You make great progess. Are the white pieces in the jeep and the barbed wire something that came with the kit as well?

Hi Tony,

Unfortunately not. They are various bits of stowage from the carriers/airborne jeep I was building. Can't exactly remember where I got the ammo boxes maybe Accurate Armour, or could be SB Scotia.

Hi Calvin,

Thank you kind sir, much appreciated. This one has been fun, but we will have to see what the final product looks like. Tomorrow should finish the figure and hopefully fit the top!

Morning Guys,

A bit more progress! Added some decals, but unfortunately my M555... No didn't work out so I've gone generic with a spare one form the AA set. Added the antenna mount and a B type antenna form my free item that I got form Resicast on my last order. Also the jerrycan holder, a spare from the RA jeep build and the Tamiya Spare wheel also left over from the RA jeep build.

Painted the stores and almost finished the driver although I need to wait for the decal fix to work on the shoulder insignia, dust his boots and add the steering wheel, plus try and dry brush the netting on his tin pot.

I'm not sure about adding some stowage to the bonnet, what do you thnk? Also here'a a look at the vehicle with the tarp on, only set in place so excuse the 'gap' which won't be a problem once I add some glue (I hope ).

Also with 2IG (Armd) being armour I though about adding the holstered .45 Thompson MG once the tarp is fixed?

The tools will be the last item as you need somewhere to hold this little fellow and there are some small grad handles that need to be added too.

Hi Guys,

Drivers in and the tarp fitted. I've strapped it down until the glue dries as the fit wasn't great. Main problem is the rear of the tarp catching on the rear seat, also had to cut and adjust one of the supports that got moved out of line as a result. Not perfect and might need a little filler on the back when I take the tape off.

Driver worked out well though, especially as there isn't that much room , the steering wheel went in fine.

I suppose it could be an ambulance jeep with a bandage on lol lol.

Hi Tony.

The fix is in, a little milliput, just want to let it harden overnight. and will post a few finished build pics for comment probably on Friday.

When I get to it I will join my IG tank troop dio I started building for 3 years ago so don't expect anything too soon lol, lol as it still requires a Humber Scout Car and that has been in the box since the kit came out.

Cheers
