I've been away awhile due to work/family/life getting in the way. I've been sifting through my stash and keep looking at the 1/35 Dora that I bought nearly two years ago.
At the time there was a fair bit of activity around the various forums with folks getting busy with the kit. However, a quick look on here and elsewhere doesn't turn up anything I didn't see two years ago.
Quite a few of these kits seem to have been bought but it seems very few have been built.
Anybody have any links to completed Dora's? I was following Luis Alho's build in Portugal for a long time but even that thread seems to have dried up.
I guess a lot of people are pushed for space like me but I'm surprised I've not encountered at least one large diorama on the net...

Hi Iain,
If you have a Dora still on your stash, then you are the few that could afford it. As far as builds go, TankCarl started one way back in July of '08. Someone did finish it and shipped it to a show recently, but I can't find or remember who that was or the show. It may have been TankCarl.
Anyways, I think it lost it's flare do to the size and price of the kit. Too large of a build for the weekend warrior modeler.

Iain,
My Dora is in it's box, parked in the garage, (there wasn't room for it on the basement shelves) quietly waiting for it's time to be built. I fully intend to build it. I have to wait for two more children to grow older and move out before I have an empty bedroom to build it in.

My Dora is in some Internet retailer's stock where it's likely gonna stay....
I'll make do re-watching "The Guns of Navarone" one more time. I just don't have the stones or the money to tackle THAT project, LOL. But my hat's off to you guys who do!

Holy Crap, 1/6th scale!!
Did anybody happen to notice what was in the background? A 251. New meaning to "Towed Artillery." Well, I guess he'll have no problem moving it around. I wonder how many times the police were out there making sure he wasn't building a homemade artillery piece.

If he owns his own 251, he probably lives on 20 acres and the answer is none!

Holey cow! No way I could ever even begin to think of tackling a project like that one! WOW!!! What does one do with it when it's finished? I've got enough trouble moving 1/35th scale armor around...not to mention the 'better half' condoning a build of that magnitude!
Yikes!

Hi I'm new, so bare with me.
I'd done a few display models for my local hobby store (108km away from home) and they asked me to build a 1/35 Dora so they could use it as static display. I was tempted, but considering I would have trouble transporting just the kit box home let alone returning the completed model, I declined their offer. They still ask me about it from time to time, I don't know, it's a nice model and I do like rail guns.

Hopefully this is not too far off topic...
Are there 1/72 or 1/144 version of this kit available?

Hummm.....this could be the general reason for slow sales and even slower builds.....you need to empty the house to build and store Dora....

I wonder why there is a metal barrel availible for the kit. Is something wrong with the kit barrel and wouldn-t it break under the heavier wight?

For some reason this reminds me of an item I heard on the radio the other day, about "The Harvard Classics, originally known as Dr. Eliot's Five Foot Shelf".
These were selected in 1909 to be the literary and philosophical works necessary for a fully rounded education.
But some people would rather just use that five foot shelf to hold an enormous model of a German rail gun . . . !! And if they didn't, I guess we wouldn't be here.
For more info on that literary option for your shelf see here:
