Without boring to many people, segments 1,2,3,4,5 and 7 have now been completed, with 4 more to go, I am finding it encreasingly difficult to take a good photo of this as size has now grown.
seg 1,2,3,4,5,7 complete 022
seg 1,2,3,4,5,7 complete 009
seg 1,2,3,4,5,7 complete 031
seg 1,2,3,4,5,7 complete 016
seg 1,2,3,4,5,7 complete 017
Well, sadly due to my lack of skill this thread probably won't attract a lot of attention, if on effort then I'd like to believe there'll be loads of replies LOL, still never mind, 4 more segments to go and then everyone can give a deep sigh of relief, sorry if I've bored people, I don't mean to, its just the way I come across and basically that's the way I am, I honestly don't mean anything by it.

Well, I've never done a diorama, but it looks like a decent start to me. One thing I have a question about, however: would the flags the semaphore signalman is using be the same color? As I remember (from Scouts..back in the dark ages), the flags were two different colors. You may be right; my memory might be incorrect, or what's left of it. Anyway, good luck with the diorama.

Gday Alec
This is the first I have seen of this, and I'll start by saying that you have taken on a lot!
No doubt there is a lot of effort gone into this mate. What is the plan~ are they to be individual segments around the same theme, or a continual scene only segmented for handling purposes?
Is the scene of the Western front? I believe there wouldn't be the tree lines shown, as the artillery would have reduced the landscape to a barren cratered waste.
I reckon, and especially for a beginner, that you start with one segment and really work on creating a complete storyline within that scene itself. Too often the excitement of creating dioramas leads one to go well beyond the limits of 'controlling the scene'.
I see a huge variety of groundwork combined, and they seem to overpower the scenes and harking back to an earlier observation maybe you could run with limited 'additions' and really work on making the actual ground look realistic, pock marked with shell holes etc. and go for a more simplified approach. Less can be more in these instances!
A+ for effort though

Alec,
Spectacular work a scene that requires more than just a quick glance,
But as Brad said before the trees are a bit 'common' the 'lone pine' is more beffiting for the artillery crazy western front. your enthusiasm for a seldom modelled subject is encouraging, and much need breath of fresh air. ( I Brought the ICM 1/35 WW1 German assault troops a while ago and now i might give than more than a spot on the 'to do' list .)
looking forward to seeing your other segments.

Cheers,
Mat

Hello and a big thank you for the replies, to be perfectly blunt I'm rubbish as this diorama building lark, and doing this segmented WW1 is something I've never seen before and have gone in totally blind, I also wanted something different from the blood and mud of WW1, so wrongly I have placed trees and grasses here and there, but as always, I've gone back done some reserch and ended up with mud and blood anyway, the last 4 segments hold the 2 buildings and will be finished within a couple of weeks, each segment is a whole and can be viewed as a complete WW1 diorama, the full 10 segments go together to make one huge layout.

Hi Alec,

There is a lot going on here. If you use the time frame of the early part of the war then trees aren't so much of a problem. That wouod mean moving the tanks and aircraft to the later part of the war and loosing the trees on those sections.

If you google for World War 1 you should come up with a lot of useful information. Are you trying to move across time? that could work with segments of early war, middle war and the break through.

Just some thoughts, the main thing is to have fun, you can imporve and amend things as you learn more.

Al
