Looks good except the driver's hatch is on upside down.

Acutally Nick the instructons are correct I've just checked them and several other Tamiya M113's are sure your not confusing yourself with the hatch being shown open?

I think it was a good job for a 14 year old especially, I know at 14 I couldn't have done as well

Hey, Nick
Great job on the weathering, especially the color of the soil.

Pretty good job. Decent job on the weathering and finish. A couple pointers though. First, the commanders' hatch inside color should be the same OD as the rest of the vehicle. It looks pale green or dirty white in your pics. Next is the lights. On the front, they should be the outside lights on both sides clear and the inside lights either gloss black or dark red. The two inner lights are for IR Infra-Red) driving with night observation goggles. On the rear, only the upper left oval should be red, the other three positions (lower one on the left and both upper and lower on the right) should be black slits. They are part of the night driving blackout light system. It should look like below.

Front

Rear

It looks pretty good. A few minor corrections and it will look great. Keep up the good work.

notice in the black & white photo that there are no mud guards on the sides of the hull. These were removed almost as soon as they were unloaded. Also note the position of the the front plate that was put down to aid in river crossings. (cannot for the life of me think of the proper name) Had they gone into the bush with that plate down like that, it would have been ripped off in no time. The 3/4 CAV broke jungle 75% of the time. Also not there is no gear or extra ammo boxes ontop the hull.

The plywood breaker board on the front is called a "trim vane". I noticed on the rear view of the M113 in Iraq that this vehicle is sporting the Diehl tracks as well! Is someone making a conversion set of tracks w/sprockets for this version?

Nicely done, Nick. I must have been out of the country when this thread started. Aside from the other pointers, for future models beware of those little circle shaped indentations in places like the undersides of hatches. These are left from the knock out pins during the molding process, and don't belong there. The fastest way to get rid of them is by using CA and an accelerator. You can usually have them filled and sanded in less than a minute - far quicker than waiting on putty to cure.

Someone makes them already. I forge who, but I think maybe Accurate Armor(?).

Looks real good. I like the weathering. Are you planning to put a TC in the hatch?
