Hi Guys. Real quick question re HMMWV's. I was looking a pics on Prime Portal and came across this pic.

It's a SF HMMWV in Iraq. The question I have is regarding the running board / side step. Is it for SF cars only or is it a Hillbilly field mod applied to HMMWV's in general? I saw another version with mods to fit 3 ammo liners too, .50 cal by the look (I could be wrong). I am also looking for pics of HMMWV's on patrol in Afghanistan too (Prime Portal only has pics for Iraq) as I am trying to get an idea of what the are loaded with in regards of stowage during routine ops. Hope some one can help.

Tony
Check through this thread, it may answer some of your questions, if not ask again once you've read the thread.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Bill

Thanks Bill and Frenchy. I appreciate the point in the right direction. I just realized that the HMMWV is a lot more complicated than just the basic Tamiya kit. Should be interesting as I am just geeting back into the modelling game after a 2 year break. Will keep you updated.

That link Bill provided should be very useful. The running board was originally designed to wrap around underneath the chassis, and could indeed mount stowage racks generally used for ammo cans. SF guys being who they are, they reversed the locations of those reinforcements and used them for running boards. Very effective for quick assualts whereby troopers held on to the roof (some had extra grab handles for this) and stood on the running boards. It saved a few seconds not having to un-ass the vehicle, which is notnalways easy given the amount of kit carried these days. At any rate, Matte's first version shows this mod.

Your welcome. I think the running board mod with the ammo cans comes from Pro Art Models, one piece out of a larger offering.
Let us see how you're doing from time to time, you've got to love HMMWV's.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the information and pics. I certainly appreciate it. I have just placed an order with Hobbyeasy and am about to place on order with Tankrats for some more stuff. Cheers.
