Hi all,
while browsing on the web I found this picture of VLRA. It was stated it belonged to the 4e squadron of the 13e Regiment de Dragons (Para).

This is the short version of the VLRA, not the longer one used by french SAS (1er RPIM). My question is, do you know whether this could be the African theatre or Afghanistan? And also aren´t there any further pictures of this SOF vehicle available?

Thanks for any info

Jiri

I must credit a lot of these photos to Frenchy, he too loves this vehicle.

Hello Bill,

sorry for the late reply. It is just a little bit busier at work at the moment. Thanks for the great pictures! They give a very clear image of how the french SOF vehicles look and what do they carry.

Unfortunately this is not the same type. You posted the long chassis version of french SAS teams. My concern is the short chassis version (logically, it is made by Masters Prod. )

Thanks again.

You are most kindly welcome. Sorry that the chassis is wrong but these are the only pics I have of this vehicle. So you say the MP resin is the short body, perhaps you could lengthen the rear compartment. If I find any more pics I'll send them your way.

That´s the sweetie! Cheers Frenchy...

By any chance guys, do you have an idea from which deployment might be my original picture? Afghanistan/Africa?

Hard to tell (at least for me) as since 2001, the 13°RDP has been deployed in many countries : Cameroon, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Timor, Haïti, Senegal,Guinea, Ivory Coast, Afghanistan (and probably other countries as well ) ... Talking about Afghanistan, I've just found a few more pics showing long wheel base VLRAs there (last post) :

Try this one, an Irish Defence Forces variant used in Somalia as a gun truck on convoy missions circa 1993, my friend actually owns this vehicle now after the army disposed of it some years ago and he has restored it to its UNISOM livery, I've attached a model I made of it some time ago too..

..great thread Jiri, keep up the good work!
