Hi there,
i need to ask one question.
I plan to do a diorama to depict the Chechnya conflict. The setup would be in suburban or rural area and at a road intersection.
Maybe 1 or 2 vehicles will be involved and a few russian soldiers.
I've been thinking and i found this miniart building
which look like the idea in my head.
My question is, is this set suitable to be used in this dio?
thanks and appreciate any feedback
Zaidi

Hi Zaidi
I can't comment on the dio set, but I am curious to hear what figures and vehicles you're going to use.

A road sign with some russian letters would make this work, well that's what I have done with other dios. Remember to have fun.

How about these? Rest Models 1:35 4 resin figures Modern Russian Army in Chechyan Region.
I have a set I can send you - but there's a string attached You need to review them for Armorama

Rudi,
that was a very nice offer. The figure looks good. Unfortunately, the dio will be on the ambush or combat setup. I did the review for the figure in question here
The BTR-70 will be this one
Anyway, this is a nice offer and the figures are nice....

Zaidi,
I don't see why you can not use that Miniart model as a base for your diorama. I use these models for my diorama a lot, so its left up to you.
I hold also recommend these models also:
Miniart 35018 CZECH CITY BUILDING and Miniart 35024 UKRAINIAN VILLAGE HOUSE
Check out their web site: http://www.miniart-models.com
Here is one I'm doing:

Hope this helps

Hello Zaidi,
I don’t think Normandy building is a good fit for Chechnya War dio. This particular building is very (Western) European looking. The same applies to Czech building mentioned above for its prominent archway (for lack of better term) feature. You’re talking totally different region with significant Islamic influence and also much later time frame. Here is a picture of Grozny in 1938:
At least in theory some of those buildings might have survived Soviet administration until the nineties (in which case Miniart’s Russian #35016 or Lithuanian #35504 kits would probably work). However my guess would be that the city looked more “modern” with typical concrete apartment complexes of the communist era:
Rural areas would probably escape communist uniformity to the point but would also be much poorer which renders the building you’ve chosen even more obsolete. I would suggest searching Google Images for related pictures to give you an idea:

Hi
I'm not really into modelling modern conflicts or equipment but this figure set I would love to do and I think it would look great as part of your scene.

Aleš ,
Thanks for your feedback and i really appreciate them. I have the same feeling about that too. I got a few photos that i collected ever since i had this idea played in my brains (that was 3-4 years ago)... most of the building in the urban area are of the apartment type (low and medium rise apartment)..
can be seen in these photos below
These are at downtown Grozny taken during the conflict [photos copyrighted of the owner - i put here for reference only]
and this one triggered me the idea more
look at the right building..the wall and arch look just like any of those European building (at least from my opinion coz i haven't been to any part of Europe ) and the right building in the miniart dio looks just okay to me...
that maybe the setup i look into... i had the idea to build the ruin of small apartment as seen in the first photo (or the last photo in your reply) and maybe another (thus, the cross road) will be maybe an old building on the other side.... just an idea i had....
anyway, i really appreciate your comments. It really made me feel good about how to proceed.

I have to agree with others that the style might be a little out of place.
Having said that these ruins are not that far off the buildings that I have seen in Belarus.
Whilst alot of areas got the Soviet modernisation programme some older style buildings remained. Actually in the case of Minsk theres a great deal of older style buildings and grandoise blocks that were used as Soviet Offices and governmental buildings.
I think you could probably get away with the ruin on the right as I've seen similar in Minsk. The differences would be on the roofs etc, the walls aren't that far off.
On a side note Rudi still need a review of those Russian troops? I'd be happy to help if needed they are fantastic sculpts and I love Russian stuff
