Glad to be of help Jeff. I thought you had the real thing when I saw the close-up pics of the ammo boxes -- good job on those! That site is a good reference for colored pics -- a forum member passed it on when I was looking for pics of the 1/6 Granatwerfer ammo boxes I was building sometime back. Got me so engrossed that the painting is still WIP. Keep it up. Cheers -- Tat

After talking to my buddy in England he thought that the ammo was plated in copper as it was in short supply to the Germans in WW2.
Mostly steel cases.
Which makes sense.

Thanks again

Just for the record, this weapon used "copper washed" cases ,and the example I have has a blue projectile.

Might want to look here also as some in brass.

If you look closely at the cartridge in the upper left it looks to be a steel case with a brass wash....

The 1/6 kits are quite impressive in size. As noted on various postings here, there are a number of inaccuracies and opportunities that given the size, one would think Dragon should have been able to easily address them. I am building the 1/6 Kettenkrad and have the Schwimwagen waiting for it's turn on the workbench. Lot's of opportunity with both kits, just like the 20mm. The Kk is missing a lot of important details - mirror, engine, radiator louver and positioning lever, heater, and exhaust. I would have loved to see the mounting brackets for the rifles on the rear too. The kit required a lot of cleanup on parts, especially the resin parts. Both kits do not include at engine. Working access to the engine compartments and not to include an engine is insane on kits of these sizes. This being said, I am sure the primary reasons are 1. - to keep the retails down to a more attractive level to produce sales, and 2. - aftermarket kits to produce revenue streams. Again as noted, little has come forward in the way of aftermarket to help finish these kits and turn them into masterpieces. I am not trying to bash Dragon for their 1/6 kits, they challenge the modeller, and I am enjoying building mine, but, I would certainly be willing to pay more for more accuracy.

Your work on the 20mm is outstanding. Adding the extra details and working through the basic flaws of the kit is creating a one of a kind masterpiece. It will be an attention getter at model shows everywhere. Great job!

Well this required a reply with a quote.
First thanks for the comment.
I do agree could of been made more of a kit then what it is.
Plus wrong shells no ammo boxes.
Both solved by resin and brass rounds which cost 3 times what the kit cost.
But hey look much better.
I have the Puppchen on hand want to try my first winter scene with it snow and all.
I would also like to do the American jeep but not in kit form and no engine at $300.00 a bit steep, for a built model.
Their Kubblewagen is something I am looking at also.
The dak version.
The kits do offer a good starting point ,just wish that somebody would fill in the blanks with PE and some decent decals.
Resin engines of cause would cost more then the kit.
But heck the price is still in line with a done up 1/35 scale Sherman if all the add-ons are bought.
Now the figures which even with Tony's Resin head sculpts still leave a bit of not looking alive to me.
Prices can be really high for a decent figure.
There are some sites that deal with this scale.
Enclosing two of them you might pick up on some points as I think somebody is doing the exact same kit ,if you well then forgive me not knowing.
Enjoy the build sure is different and made me want to go back and finish some 1/35 scale stuff as a break between it.
