OK, just getting ready to do the painting on this beast. Lower chassis is done, I masked up one side before I decided I better take some photos and slip a post in before SS-74's next project.
The base kit is the tamiya AAV7 and teh EAAK (aplique armor) is from a now hard to find Trumpeter kit. Sounds like at least one after market compnay will be offering the EAAK armor in resin.
The AAV will be done in the three-tone pattern in Iraq this spring. I still need to sand a few of the problem areas on the hull. The white putty is visible.

It should look better when done..... I'm just glad to be underway!!!!

Edit: Nate, the problem is that you're not getting the "entire" URL address. When you put your pointer at the beginning of the URL address, press and hold the mouse button as you slowly drag towards the right and down. If you click on the edit button in this post, you'll see that the URL address is quite large. KF

PC a.k.a. Nate, it's looking good so far. Are you going to use any PE with it? Isn't kit bashing fun?!
Of all the U.S. vehicles this is one rather weird looking one...at least to me.

Kencelot:
No PE in the plans, but she'll be loaded up with gear from AEF designs when it arrives. Marnies really put a lot of stuff on the outside of thse babies. The design sorta reminds me of that Jawa thing in Star Wars.
I noticed in many photos there's some sort of muffler behind the second hatch on the drivers side, but I also found a few that didn't have it. So I should be in the clear. Will this kit 100-percent up to standards used in OIF, i doubt it, but is will hopefully be pretty close.
If we're lucky we;; get an all new -- or modified -- kit at some point.
Thanks for fixing the post too.....

Damn this is fine looking armor. I always have a feeling that this is a huge vehicle, can you put some reference by the side to show us how big it is.

Great Masking with foils, I love the clean build, can't wait to see more!

Damn, I am getting slow here, I miss the days whilst I hogging rivet review... #:-) #:-) (++) (++) (++)

Dave, this picture should give you some idea about the size of the real vehicle, so you can estimate the size of the model:

I'm planning to do the same with my AAVP7 as Nate did - I managed to buy Trumpeter kit recently (and already sold it, less the EAAK armor sprue ) and I have Tamiya kit on the box pile. I thought about buying the Academy indi-link tracks, but they are not available anywhere, despite being listed on their web page... Model Kasten also makes a set, but it is expensive. Now I think I may buy the recently announced wheel/track set from Blast Models and just build my Amtrac in the latest version.

One thing I still cannot undestand is why there is still no aftermarket interior set for this vehicle??? I don't have enough references to try to scratch build one...

BTW: I think Trumpeter/Mini Hobby kits with EAAK armor may be now available in Poland, as I bought one recently in the shop, that had a lot of other Mini Hobby kits on the shelf. So if anyone wants one, I can try to buy one here and send it abroad in exchange for some other stuff.

Rgds,
Pawel

For others looking at tthis project: Pawel's photo shows the muffler I was talking about, I'm not going to tackle it on this project as it appears some AAV7 operated without it.
Also looks like I need to hit the road wheels with a heavier dusting of pastel's.....

Lord Pork:

Even though you seldom post to my stuff (lol), I am compelled to compliment you on this vehicle.

Looks pretty neat, kind of a different subject than usual. Looks like a solid build on your part. Will you be adding any of the fine figures you do?

ps: How do you build them so fast???

Steve:
I'll just be using the 2 kit-figures, though I plan on modifying their body armor to current standards. Look for this thing to be covered in packs and junk. I have the AEF stuff en route, hopefully the Tamiya stuff (packs, bed rolls etc) comes out in the next week too (I have no idea when that stuff is due).
Now I'll go find all your stuff and post. What's your last kit?
