Stalin was no better he was too an evil man. Soviets defend their homeland.
My point exactly!! Although the wholesale murder of innocent civilians across the East of Europe is hardly defending their homeland is it?
Now can we please get off this subject that you brought about and use this website for what it was intended.. Modelling, not 70 year old politics

I look forward to see more progress on this topic, very interesting, original and refreshing too. The layout looks great, I like the way you built up the stone wall.
Are you planning to do something with the soldiers ? For example : make them look like ghosts by painting them in greyish tones maybe ?
Will there be visitors involved ? They can add a lot of effect.
Neinmonia : stop it, please ?
Cheers ! Guy

Hi Robert,
Congrats for your efforts in trying to do something different.
I must confess , between your first post, the different propositions ( the one with the old man near the tombs reminds me a bit to much the "Private Ryan" intro) and the intermezzo with Neinmonia i lost a bit what is up now.
Your layout looks very confusing and complicated also.
The stonewall (you also do not like) has simply to big stones.
I have learned through my little experience that, if you can make something smaller , do it, it will always look better in our scale. You will have more work (and that is the problem for most of the modeller's) but use stones of half the thickness and you will be good.
Perhaps you saw this post on ML. It is a work of two friends of mine, two of the best german modellers .
Now and then
It has the same initial idea as you have.
Looking forward to see how you are going to build this
Claude
(just saw that your pics are from late August, so there should be more in the meantime)

Thanks all for comments,
Claude I have to apology because date on my camera is wrong,, pictures are taken yesterday so there is no new pictures. As you said stones in the wall are too big and fortunately I have some more stones to try with..
There was few different proposals as you said ,and yes , one with old man definitely reminds of "Ryan".. Well basic layout is here and we shall see how it will turn out at the end...
to Guy : I'm still thinking about visitor on the graveyard but not so sure I will go for it, instead I maybe put small olive tree... painting figures in grayish tones is interesting but I'm not sure that my skills are up to it..
anyway thanks for comments
I appreciate it
Cheers

In reply to building a nazi dio----- we model war, the good, bad and ugly is all part of our history. I see no glorification in this dio so , have at it. It, to me, reminds me of an old man who lost his youth and friends in combat. A salute to the bravery of any soilder no matter the side or fight, is what I see. You don't need to be on the ( side of right ) to lose youth or friends. Remember, all worriors belive they are on the right side and they bleed and die like all else. Another point to remember, if we forget history, we are doomed to repeat it.
Robert, you've been give good feedback on this dio. Go for it and enjoy. What ever the final outcome, I look forward to seeing this one done.

Hi Robert,
A very interesting project and a very challenging one to present as the viewer will have to grasp the story at the first look. Personally I always enjoy non-combat, emotional dios. Not sure if this will help but how about having the focus on the old man rather than the gravestones. This would mean the viewer looking at the front of the dio would be looking at the old man's face rather than his back, the way the current setup is.
As a suggestion, have the gravestones at the front right corner. That way the old man's face will be facing the viewer at an angle. Then have the 4 Fallschirmjagers in the the back left corner and raised at a higher elevation than the gravestones. Sought of like when artists depict someone thinking of their past and the picture of their memory appears at the top of their heads. Not sure if it'll look better if you rearrange it that way though so you may want to try moving it around first.
Good luck and looking forward to seeing the development on this.

Guys dont feed the"troll", neinmonia always drops in and out with his Usless politcal comments and bucket full of B.S, funny how he never shows his work eh? Now lets get back to modelling as its what this site is for. Rob, my man, this is one interesting Dio,i saw a dio on ML that showed a sturmtiger in berlin 1945 and then after in a museum with a old man looking at it. Looking foward to seeing the figures

Hi everyone, and once again thanks for all comments. Last few days I've been trying to build bottom portion of dio... so that's it, not to much but lots of work with stones, lots of dust and small pieces of stone flying around

Did I understand this correct, do you think, you´re slow?
No, I don´t think so.
Also my own projects have a "delay", because I build a 3D-model to make a reference for changes on a model-kit, which I plan to convert. (soviet Venus-landers including their different bases) Also another dio (my s.10cmK18) has to wait.
Your dio looks good so far! But with the grass I have a question.
I looks a bit to green.
Are there any "nuances" (differences in color) or so?
I also used grass on my reworked dio.
But perhaps this an effect of that a picture cannot represent that, what one sees.
greetings...
Soeren

Well grass is little bit darker then on photos but anyway needs some corrections in color..
Here's a few referent pictures I'm using in this project . Part with flowers could be a problem, not flowers themself but this green stuff around it. Any suggestions ?
Cheers

Thanks for the update!
I had to read all my (and others) messages until now to get an overview.
But... my actual project (a soviet (planetary) venus-lander) is delayed "from time to time".

a very well done Dio Robert, all politics aside, i see nothing wrong in what you've portrayed here it's a very poignant diorama which IMHO doesn't glorify the nazis in any way, and it tells a good story of 4 soldiers going off to war and never going home. i love how you have the color (the present) bleeding into the black and white (the past) it gives a very eyecatching dynamic to the layout it shows great talent both in modelling and painting, as well as photography, kudos mate wish i could pull something like that off, but i'm not that good lol.
