Looks neat. I just got a Tamiya T-62 in the mail. This could be a fun project. One question though. Why is there no slat armor on front of turret or hull ? The armor there is not that thick and a typical shaped charge could burn thru 12 inches of steel. Just curious. Good pictures though, and a cool build idea. - Bobby

Many T-62's have "brow armor" appliques on the turret for this reason. That said, RPG gunners usually prefer to fire from ambush as a tank passes, rather than stand in the open directly in front facing the main gun and coaxial machine gun, so the side only protection makes a certain kind of sense..

Gonna start this myself. I am going to add a KT-7 mine roller also and use my new Trump T-62. Found some great images of them in Chechyna and Georgia. Can't wait to see what you do. Ryan

I am looking forward to your build. What I like about real life slat is that it isn't pretty and even, it really shows its age.

Boggie, that last picture is actually of a T-69 II. You can tell by the smoke grenade mounts, T54 type dome ventilator and headlights on the fenders.

Gerald, ok. Thanks. That does make sense. I didn't notice any E.RA. blocks or extra applique of armor to turret or hull front, so I had to ask. I thought maybe it would have interferred with vehicle operation or sighting system for main gun. However that makes sense. - Bobby

I agree...success with a RPG-7 is best at 200M or less (50% or better). Not a good range when attacking from the front...especially since all the killing things tend to point forward as well.
Attacking from the side in ambush is a better idea if you want to 1. successfully attack the tank and 2. have any chance of survival.
Also, the bar armor weighs a bit more than you might expect, so putting on only enough to be effective is necessary for mobility.
On a side note...RPG's are now made WITH PRIDE IN THE USA! Surreal...

Aint Capitalism grand?????? I dunno why im even surprised. It actually sounds like a great weapon - I think its lighter as well. I HOPE they have a tight cutomer base and this won't be a Tony Stark!

The weight consideration I agree with, but as far as hitting vehicle from side / rear I believe is where they typically start. However, If i'm not mistaken didn't the Russians have a few M.B.T'S knocked out ( Chechnya ) and U.S. M-1 in Iraq by R.P.G. gunners simply raining down ( approximately 50 ) shots from all directions ?

The BEST way to use teh RPG is from a 3rd story window shooting down onto the engine deck of a tank, preferrably after passing so it will not shoot at you. For redundancies sake, better to have many people shoot at tanks from many directions. And it will take mulitple hits to knock the tank out either because you will only "wound" it, or you may not hit it in a critical area...ie, a shot may go through the fender or some such.
The idea is that you have a +50% chance to hit a tank sized moving object at 200M. It does not mean accurately. The PRG is best seen as a area effect weapon (on the tank) rather than a sniping effect weapon. Too much Hollywood and video game effects gives the wrong impresson on what weapons often do, especially small ones. Nukes they usually do correctly.
