Those Rum jars are really convincing, but are the front wheels on the Terrapin supposed to be off the ground?

Yes, the front and rear sets of wheels could be raised up to run on roads.

I really like that Terrapin! I hadn't seen, nor heard of, this vehicle until it first hit here a while ago.
On the want-list.

I like the RUM bottles..... hick....
I know the Royal Navy gave/give out a rum ration each day,
I take it the other services did the same?

Hi Gino,
Nice pics, thanks.
Hi Dave,
Not sure when the Army stopped the rum ration, after the 1st WW I think. We had a tot of rum each morning when we were doing out battle training, mind you it was February and cold as hell, and it was an unofficial tot provided by the section commander who was an old sweat .
The only 'official' tot we got was on St Patricks Day, the SNCOs came round at Revillie and all the Guardsmen got a shot of whisky in bed, just to get proceeding underway .
The Terrapin looks great and the other items very useable.

I don't know about the rest of the army but the LRDG was still getting the Rum rations in the Middle East throughout the campaign. It was used extensively in fact. Every meal and break had some use of the rum it seems. Apparently it was a good booster to the body since it contained sugar and those men needed it being in the desert for weeks at a time.

The Offical Rum ration started in the RN started somewhere between 1740 and 1756. It ended in 1970.
I can't see any evidence that the Rum ration was extended to either ther Army or RAF although it is clear that the prectice was adopted in WW1 in the trenches, but there seems to have been a long standing 'unofficial' practice of a tot of something before action or hazardous duty.
Perhaps someone can add to that.

I never knew it ended in 1970.
