Hello,

over the last couple of weeks I didn't have time to get to the workbench. I only had the time to enjoy the nice models presented on this platform, thank you for sharing all your work!
As I only got some days off, I wanted to start a little project. This should be finished in a couple of days, weekends, perhaps months....

It is the Dragon BRDM-2 1/35 completly out of the box.

I want to set the model up in an abandonned area and to start finally something like a little vignette. I became inspired as I saw some pics of abandonned BRDMs on primeportal.
The kit is painted with gunze and tamiya acrylics, I tried to tive some highlights and shades. The base coat is one, next will be some details picked out by brush.

Comments like everytime appreciated...

Ohh, wow! The next of the rare shown soviet vehicles, made by Dragon.
I also built this kit years ago and made it in an Iraqi-scheme.

Thanks for the comments!

@ Soeren: Do you have a pic?

The green looked so fresh I had to put on some filters, but first I sprayed on a fictional number wich I liked. Hairspray was used to get a weathered effect. But I had to rub gentl because I didn't use a primer and at litle spots the plastic showed trough.
Then I mixed a very dark-black-brown-mix of oils, with the second filter blue was added.

Next step, next weekend

Sprayed on and rubbed off:

After two filters:

Yes, I have 2 pics. I´ve built the model-kit 10 years ago and used no weathering or other techniques.

It´s a photo of a photo!

Also once I had Revell´s BRDM-2 (called SPW-40P2 or so) and painted it in the east german tri-color sceme. But I found no photos of this.

Hey folks,

finally weekend after a busy week, and I can continue on my afv.

@ Soeren: Thanks for the pic! I'll apply the same camo as your model on my next brdm. :-)

I think chipping is done. I use Valejo acrylics and a 0000 brush. Next will be weathering with the oils.

Thanks for looking and commenting!

Hi Aenea,
you've done a very good job with the paint chipping effect. It's turning great. Keep on posting.

Ahh, that also would be fine to see your next BRDM-2 build!
This one has nice effects; the chipping looks intersting and I like the overall color.

Ok gents, first of all thank you for the comments!

Weathering with oils has started. I'm going to try some streaks of rust and oil. But that's the actual situation. I think I'm going to weather it a little bit more, because it should look like it was left alone a few years...

Best regards from Switzerland,

AW

Oh, and somebody asked which wolors I have used. Here you go, I don't remember the right proportions, but I think I used olive green as a base with the Gunze one...

Hmm, as I saw the last pictures, I thought about the situation of the vehicle... "left by its crew and stands for long time " or so.
I don´t know how a vehicle would look after a few years in the weather. I only saw pictures of heavily rusted vehicles.

greetings...

Hey Soeren! Thanks for the comment. You're right about the rust. But I was afraid to do it because of the lack of my skills. But today I recieved my 10/0 brush and gave it a go. First I appliet burnt sienna and then some pigments light rust and standard rust. I think they are too light. But I'll add some dust with acrylics, I hope they'll tone it a bit down. And I began with the base.

Suggestions like always appreciated...

Hello my friends,

It's sunday evening and overdue with a post. Continued the weathering with dusting acrylics and pigments. An begann to plant some tall grass on my vignette. More weathering on the BRDM will be when I have finished it's base. Small parts are now attached.

What do you think, is it 'overdusted' ?!

Best regards from Switzerland!

Hello,
That's very very nice paintwork.
Not too much, not overdone, just pleasant for the eye.
I like what you're done so far, and, that's a pretty nice vehicle.
I was afraid by all the negative comments about the old DML kit, but you prove that it can be turned into a very nice model.
Congrats for this.
Since the first shot of your post I knew it will be a good one.

Bye,
Alexandre.

Very good painting job. The worn out effect is looking natural and gives life to your model.
Nice effect on the number too. I must try this hairspray technique as it looks quite convincing and easy to master (?)

I agree with the others; the paint-job looks good and natural.
A bit of rust and some color-variations... well balanced!
Good work so far!

@ Alexandre: Thanks for your motivating words!!! The kit is certainly not state of the art, but as a training kit it's absolutly perfect. It is cheap, it is built in a couple of hours and there are plain surfaces you can exercise. But I begann to like this afv very much. Perhaps one of the big companys will release a new kit of the BRDM?!

@ Alvaro: I like to share, but it's even nicer if there are people who enjoy the work you've put in it, so thanks for looking and your nice comment!!!

@ Olivier: Thanks for you nice comment. The HS technique is very simple to use. The first time I applied it on a 1/48 Kübel to try it out and it worked 'wunderbar'. But on the last few kits I used it, the top color didn't went off so easily. So I would recommend to apply a primer and a gloss coat. While scrapping off the color on the numbers here the lower layers begann to get off... But give it a try and you'll be surprised how effective it goes! I tried it until now only with Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. Perhaps on llaquer it goes easier?!

@ Soeren: Thanks for sticking to this post!

@ juge75: Thank you very much for the links!!! Some very nice pictures!!!

@ Jaymes: Very nice compliment from you, thanks!

I'm still working on the base... Realizing that I lack of experience. But I try to finish it over the holidays.
Because I hadn't much time on the weekends I began building a new project. It is easier to glue some plastic parts in a short time, than to paint and weather a base.

Best regards,

AW

Hello

I did not know you have one of these in your backyard in Switzerland?? To check every bit of paint if it is like the real one
It is not easy to get some dept and life in an all green vehicle. But I must say mission accomplished!! The colour is just great and the weathering smooth like it should be on one of these old vehicles. What is your magic trick behind the fading of the numbers 217??

Keep it up

Cheers Roel
