Hi all,
I just got the above-mentioned gun barrel and was wondering if it would be appropriate for the Trumpeter KV-2 754(r) Tank (captured Russian tank in German service). If not, which model kit would this be compatible with? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Jeff,
Depends on which Jordi Rubio barrel you have.
TG79 or TG80 (with grilles) are the late pattern barrel with the collar around the muzzle, suitable for any KV-2 Model 1940 including the captured KV-2 754(r) vehicle used by Pz. Abt. (z.B.V.) 66 as depicted by the Trumpeter kit.
TG83 or TG84 (with grilles) are the earlier pattern without the collar, as fitted to the prototype vehicles in January/February 1940 and the 20 series production KV s bolshoiy bashniy in July/August 1940.
Check out my web site at www.4bogreen.com for more information.
Hope this helps...

Thanks Neil,
I, unfortunately, have the TG83 .....not suitable for my KV-2 754(r). I have read numerous reviews that the Trumpeter barrels are too short. I'll get the correct barrel for my kit...now I just have to get a new kit for the Jordi Rubio barrel! (I only paid $7.00 for it, including shipping, on eBay).
I've added your web site to my favorites.
Thanks again for the reply.

Hi Jeff,
Try to pick up Trumpeter's "KV Big Turret" kit. It's a great representation of the 20 series production KV s bolshoiy bashniy from mid-1940, and it suits the Jordi Rubio barrel beautifully.
Beware of the other after-market barrels that include the grooves around the barrel. The actual seams between the sections of the sleeved barrel were barely discernible to naked eye so the Aber and other barrels with deep grooves are way overdone.

But what AM barrel to choose? I have both Aber and Lion Roar barrels for my KV-2 kits and both have those grooves around barrel. I think there´s no AM barrel without some kind of brooves around barrel on the market.....
But then on the other hand, it doesn´t cause me big headache, if those grooves are still "too" visible after kit is finished.

Hi Kimmo,
The Aber and Lion Roar barrels include the grooves but the Jordi Rubio barrels do not. For a realistic appearance, I prefer the Jordi Rubio items but like you say, it's up to the individual modeller.
Cheers,
Neil

Just use some filler in the groove.

Unfortunately I do have the " KV Big Turret" and built it with the kit barrel. It looks good but I know the kit barrel has dimensional issues. I could probably do surgery on the kit but I'll let It as it is. Those Trumpeter KVs are nice kits and are still very reasonable on eBay. I'll just get another kit. I really do like the Jordi Rubio barrels. I would recommend that anyone who hasn't built one of the Trumpeter kits get one for the stash!
