John,
Below is a link to an article on Track-link that is pretty good, it explains everything from the history of the stuff to how to apply it to your models. I will add that Cavalier resin zimmerit sheets are now much easier to find, and they have a larger product line. Another company called Atak makes the same kind of product. You can find one or both at many different online hobby shops, or maybe your local shop. Also Eduard makes photo-etch zimmerit, personally I find it to be a little too uniform, but some people like it.

HTH
Mike

I've read about the hot knife method on the site that was provided from Lt. Kelley. i got the gist of how it's done but i'd liike to hear it from someone who has done it and had good results. if you don't mind please share how you did this
thanks

Of course, there's the time-honored method of using putty and a razor-saw balde to make grooves in it. It's the only way I've ever done it. Does anyone still do this, or have the other methods completely eclipsed it?

I just read that Track-link article. I have no idea what he means by the hot knife method looking "fake." I've seen some excellent zimmerit jobs by Bob Oehler of Tamiya that were done using this method. Mr. Owen must need to have his eyes checked or something.

I beg your pardon? There is nothing wrong with my eye sight thank you. Also thanks for the personal attack they always make one feel most welcome.

Yikes. Paul, I'm sure that rotc_wildcat had no intention of insulting you, or anybody else, with his post. That said, I can easily see why you took a bit of offense.

First, I think rotc_wildcat had no expectation that you would see his post, and will probably be stunned to see that you did. Second, I think that his comment was intended not to insult your obviously excellent article, but rather to praise some of the hot-knife-zimmerit he's seen.

On another note: I was interested (glad?) to see from your article that I'm not the only one that still likes the putty method. I got pretty decent results the first (and only) time I tried it; if I can manage it, it can't be that difficult.

Moderator Interruption - Everyone to their neutral corners!

Rotc - I think an apology to Paul is in order. We all have our preferences with techniques. Variety is the spice of life. It's just one opinion of many.

Paul - you know Armorama is a kind and considerate site - I'm sure Rotc didn't mean insult and offense.
