Same here, I payed and have had no word for 2 months !!

I've sent 6 or 7 e-mails, and seeing there appears to be no movement, I've now lodged a claim in via PayPal (I payed that way).

I hope he's Ok, although I've been receiving store newsletters......

I have currently purchased from AFV depot. I placed the order at the end of Oct. but did not receive my order till the first week of Dec. I live in the states of course and its all the way across the US from Arizona , but still it took quite a long time. I just kept tabs on my orderm I did get updates from Tank the whole process untill delivery. Thats a whole other story we wont get into. There's more than (1) Todd in Gordonsville

I would say give him a call.. I had 1 order that had gone untouched and I emailed and called John about the order.. seems there was a foul up with the an aber shipment to him... Johns a good guy I've delt with him many times on the net and in person... try calling guys... I know it might be a pain, but John really does try to work with everyone...

hmm think I'll give him a call an check up on him as well.

Thanks Chris !

That's not good, I hope he recovers very soon..

I'm in Oz, but I've had my modelling buddy (Bill Bradley) in Michigan try to call him several times, it seems the phone was off the hook and Bill couldn't get through ? ...

Cheers

I have also placed an order with them recently and have heard nothing since. I am going to give it another 2 weeks to see what happens since its the holiday season and that could have an effect on shipping. I did notice that they managed to charge my credit card immediately though and I dont care for that.

I placed an order on Dec 16th and it was shipped Dec 23rd. I ordered some more Black4Tracks and a few other things and I think he had to mix up another batch of Black before he shipped.

Now that the Christmas shipping rush is over the package should be here anytime.

I hope every one has had their problems solved by Jon. He has always gone out of his way to work with me on every order I have sent him. My first order a couply of years ago was followed up with a phone call one Saturday morning from him. About fruil tracks. I was shocked and suprised by the pesonal service he gave me!

Hey,Ive known Tank for 2 years now and It is a more or less a one man show..He dose all of the work mostly on his own. He dose have a partner that helps when he gets off his normal job.. I do know that Tank was in a bad way sick for about 3 weeks with the flew, and touch of pneumonia..
Speaking of orders. One must also take underconsideration on how many shows TankRats attends to and the Time and miles that is spent going cross country to help support our Clubs shows and our Modeling needs .I havnt had any problems. For me living on the Arkansas/Texas state line Its an average of a week on getting my orders...For my ordering needs its Tank Rats AFV hands down..
1. You get free shipping
2. Once you make an order you get a group discount
3. He's a one man band and has always taking time to answer my phone calls or He;ll call me back

Sorry Jeff I do not agree. If you are going to run a business, customers expect a certain level of professionalism from the company.

Well, just to add my experience, I had never used them until just before Christmas. I ordered something that was listed as In Stock, received an email notifying me that the item had shipped a day or two later, and received it in less than a week.

So, 1 for 1 as far as I'm concerned.

I also order from the site. I order just about monthly and have no problems at all. I ordered an item and it was not in stock. Jon called and we came up with a replacement item. The service is great and Tankratsafvdepot is the only armor shop I will purchase from. I have my items ship asap. Everything arrives in perfect condition. I give Tankratsafvdepot thumbs up for the large amount of Armor modeling supplies and service.

Everyone have a great new year.

I followed other links from the one you provided and saw you aren't alone in the large scale rip offs. His reputation is spreading far and wide.

I had my lesson from him some time ago and feel lucky I saw the writing on the wall before anything more happened. I didn't lose anything monetarily, but it was a betrayal of trust both as a business relationship and the fake friendship he cultivated with me that allowed him to get away with more than I would have tolerated from any other vendor.

When I read the posts by people who have done OK with TR and stick up for him because he personally calls them and chats just like a best buddy I shake my head. That's exactly how it was before I had my falling out with him. The buddy thing kept me around for a while longer, made me accept delays, unfilled promises, often higher prices, failure to apply advertised discounts, and the endless back orders. Even after I cut ties with him, it was all my fault according to him. He was the good guy, struggling to do right, while I was the arrogant a-hole customer. Many years a go I met an honest to goodness actual con man and how vital it was to cultivate trust for him to set up his victims. He took a couple of my room mates to the cleaners repeatedly over a two week period before scamming them big time and then vanishing.

Maybe TR isn't doing this stuff maliciously. I remember from my experiences with him he definitely seems to lock into his ideas of how things are or how things will go. He certainly has the remarkable ability to absolve himself of any and all responsibility for things he fails to do or follow through on. Nothing is ever his fault and he can spin some remarkable tales to "prove" it.

Even though my dealings with him are water under the bridge now, I still am stunned when I see he's still at it and going to even greater lengths to screw people and still has people rally behind him. I think there are too many decent and honest retailers feeding this hobby to tolerate those who abuse it. Eventually, this will have to catch him. Won't it?

Hi

I'm sad to see Roger Saunders proprietor and sculptor of Hornet figures and head sets has fallen victim to this character. I've met Roger at shows and after helping him out on a matter found him very kind and generous.

Of course its bad for anybody, business or individual and I'd like to think they'll get their money but it looks unlikely that any missing monies owed will be forthcoming. A post on the thread I linked to tells that he has apparently sold up his stock, no doubt to disappear and emerge somewhere else starting up another venture.

My only advice would be: with so many vendors out there who have virtually spotless records, why would you take a chance on someone who has had so many issues? Do you enjoy living dangerously?

There is a difference between a vendor who charges for extra shipping on a back-order and one who doesn't ship the back-ordered item AT ALL.

..Bill's previous caveat seems to have come to frution. This vendor has a long history of crap service and promises unfulfilled. Word is Tank Rats was sold. if that's true the new owners should be liable for outstanding orders. Even if they aren't and choose not to, they will not be succesful methinks. From my previous posts about other online vendors, you will know I hold a dim view of most of them. I am of the old school that enjoys a brisk walk to the local hobby shop and peruse the tangible items before me. As for "l'il Jon", his post about a defrauded customer comes to mind: "The last guy that called me a name ended up in hospital with facial scars and dental work"....honestly, I can't even think why anyone would deal with this guy....as for me my full sleeve tats were done by a certain motorcycle club so I ain't too worried!

His website is still up, and still says that he is in Peoria, AZ.....so I don't know about the business being sold to someone in Texas...if that was the case you would think the new owner would want to distance himself as far away as he could from Tank Rat....

His Kitmaker site is coming up as:

ADONewConnection: No database driver defined

Whatever that means.

I too have an online presence for my shop, but also have a physical store, albeit in the basement of my house, but people can still walk in and browse.

Maybe it was my 15yrs in the grocery business, and another 5 in the retail sector as a manager, but any business like this, customer service has to be a first priority, otherwise you aren't going to be in business long.

If a customer has a problem or concern...address it, fix it the best way possible, and the quickest way possible. If the customer isn't happy....then the Six Degrees if Separation takes effect. That customer tells 3 of his friends, whom each tell 3 of their friends, etc, etc. Not long and no one is buying from you.

Works the same way when a customer has a great experience, he tells his friends about the awesome place he bought his stuff from, and it blossoms from there.

In the end, it isn't rocket science....keep the customer happy, and the sales will come.

The forum has been removed from armorama as a result of this thread and others like it on other websites. Ironically, the things you mentioned about customer service always seemed to be there in my dealings with tank rat. I have been ordering from him for two years and have had nothing but good service. There would be an occasional glitch in a large order but he always made it right. Currently, Jon is seriously ill and was suppose to have emergent surgery yesterday. I am very disappointed that this is happening as I used his online store almost exclusively. I think most of his loyal customers were completely unaware of these issues. Hopefully, when he gets back on his feet he will address these issues.
