On a more serious note, is it true someone is doing a metal gun-barrel as a an addition for this beast?
Yes gentlemen...it is true. I saw one (for 55 bucks) at
www.missionmodels.com I cannot remember the manufacturer, but I am sure if you did a search you could find it!
I really don't like building models, but enamel thinner smells great!

Carl, at least you're working on yours.... Steve's had his for a while and still hasn't done much work on it.. He fit the track pieces together and that's about it. I'm really upset by that...
Glad to see you're doing something with yours.

The elevating mech has rack teeth,so I suppose if anyone buys a metal barrel, they could snag on one of the inner bulkheads and keep the gun elevated. But if not,a lot of builders will have to choose a decent "elevation" for their guns, and freeze the trunnions...

Hi TankCarl ,
I'm a plane lover but with panzer soul - I watch You progress with Leopold and must say I admire Your Job - This is pretty BIG GUN
and we can only imaging how hard work is done and will be done with this project - if it's not a secret could You tell me about dimensions of this model ? I have a very small apartment and wondering what My Wife will tell about it if I try to do this train GUN . #:-)

Hi Carl
I'm impressed by your patience with those wood slats,i don't think I'd be able to do that.Your Leopold is looking good and i'm waiting to see pics of the finished article.
Keep up the good work

Very Very nice work on this huge Chunk O Plastic Carl. Looks like it coming along quite well.
At 42 inches long I wouldn't have to dedicate a shelf to it. I would have to build a shelf FOR IT!!!!! and then a room for the shelf itself.
By the looks of this thing I could land some of my planes on it.
Keep up the great work. I usually stay on the Air and Sea side of the world but this on has peaked my curiosity..

There are only 2 rules to flying:
1: Take off is ALWAYS optoinal.
2: Landing is ALWAYS mandatory

SINKHOLES!! Thanks Dragon.Putty time, and maybe a shell at the end of construction.....
TankCarl, the Trumpeter one has it's share of molding probs as well - little raised pips and lines on areas that should be smooth, and some nice deep ejector marks (at least these have so-far been fairly well hidden or easy to deal with)
It's a strange mix - some VERY small parts that are realy well molded and detaild mixed with some of the larger parts that don't show the same fine standard of finish........
I've taken a different approach to building the kit in that I'm building the gun and chassis first - I figure that once I've got this huge piece of the kit together I'll have more incentive to keep at it and finish the rail trucks. They've just got so many, many tiny, delicate, easily-eaten-by-carpet pieces to worry about

And now, looking at that arm supporting the shel holder,or ,maybe its the charge holder,I think it needsa bolt head on top.It must be a swivel,so it needs an axis...

Major construction operations have ceased on my Leopold. Now it is time for some pictures when I get home from work, and some painting.
the slowest part was the 2 ladders on the sides of the main body.
I found that after I had built the first upper section,it was easier to attach the next section's side rails. Then I cut new rungs from round plastic stock.Much easier than having to shave off a sprue attachment point...
