Does anyone know of anyone who makes 1/35 12.8cm brass ammo for this ?

Hey Dean

I second that, does anyone make them? I've seen RB Model 12.8cm ammo, but that's for the Sturer Emil 12.8cm PaK 40.

Attack Hobby Kits make a resin ammo set with 13 AP heads plus cannisters, 13 HE heads plus cannisters and 22 shell casings plus cannisters, but at over US$30 plus delivery, I'm not too keen on that option. I almost paid that much for the Jagdtiger itself

Woohoo! Mother-in-law has finally gone home, so should be full steam ahead in the hobby room now.

I completed the last few steps of construction today

Step 23.
Attaching hull parts 3. This is adding lifting hooks to the engine deck. You have to be careful removing the smallest hooks from the sprue, I almost lost one to the dreaded carpet monster As per other steps, I've left off the tow cable to paint separate.

Step 24. Photo etched grill. This is the final stage of assembly. The AA MG mount is assembled and attached to the engine access cover. Had a gumby moment this afternoon when going to paint the matt black into the engine grills. I brought a new bottle of thinners the other day, and after pouring some matt black into a mixing cup I added thinners. I gave it a stir, and noticed that instead of mixing, it was separating! I checked the bottle of thinners, and I had managed to pick up a bottle of enamel thinners instead of acrylic! so after dropping the mother-in-law at the airport, we detoured to the LHS to buy some correct acrylic thinners. After spraying the matt black, and leaving it to dry for a few hours, I added the PE grills using CA. I'm sure I managed to clog some of the holes on the grills. I might use a pin to clear the holes, or maybe add minor battle damage.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to mask up few places on the Jagdtiger, and apply an initial coat of red oxide primer. It all depends on the weather, the forecast for tomorrow (NZ time) is Cloud increasing, evening rain. Humid northeasterlies. Low: 17°C (62.6°F) High: 25°C (77°F) even the next day isn't too flash either: Early rain then showers. Westerlies. Low: 17°C High: 24°C Oh well, could be a good excuse to pull something else from the stash to start building

Andrew, I like the idea of the little boxes under the engine grills. Do you mind if i steal your idea when i build mine. By the way, I still have some matchbox cars at the parents house. Most of them are well played with, If you know what I mean! Cheers, my friend!

Hey John,

I have no problem with you using the box idea under the grills. That's why I posted it on here, so others can use it when building their own Jagdtiger

I still have quite a few matchbox cars at my parents too, the pile is dwindling though, as my nephew is helping himself to them.

Hi Anthony

Thanks for the kind words. Progress has come to a bit of a halt, due to inconsistant weather

I'm still waiting for a good weather window to coat the Jagdtiger with a red oxide prime coat. It's seems every time I'm just about to head to the garage to paint, it clouds up, and starts to rain.

See pic below, I'm ready to go, everything has been masked up, and ready to paint

I've got the initial coat of red oxide primer on the Jagdtiger. My new drill bit set arrived, so I've added a turned brass antenna to the Jagdtiger. I'll be looking to get a final coat of primer on tomorrow, ready to apply the first coat of dark yellow a day or two after that.

I'll get some better pics up tomorrow too

Comments and feedback welcome

Awesome weather outside today for painting, so final coat of red oxide primer applied to the Jagdtiger. I'll leave this to harden for a few days before starting colour coats.

Hi Andrew.
Looking good so far. Are the doors inserts, kit parts painted white, or are they scratch built?

Hey John

Thanks for the comment

Hi Paul

Check out www.militarymodels.co.nz Use the 'Contact Us' tab

Hey Frank

Thanks for the comments. The door inserts are kit parts. If you were showing them open, I reckon you could add a bit more detail to them. I didn't worry too much, as I'm having them closed on the build.

Yes, you need to buy one, or two or three

While SWMBO was home yesterday afternoon and was looking after baby, I managed to get a first color coat onto the Jagdtiger.

It's already a scorcher day outside 31deg C /87deg F and it's only half 10 in the morning. I'll be aiming to get a second coat laid on today

Warming up nicely here too (09.30) !!!! your JT looks good with the first coat laid down, what are you using to plug the holes there?

I see a couple of interesting kits in the background (to much time on your hands! try having twins... lol)!!! ... can we expect build-ups on these as well?

I said "make" not "buy" I already have two of them, they're just in that ever growing pile that will probably outlive me. Sometimes I envy those people who's modelling needs are content with the "Glue it Monday, Paint it Tuesday, start the next one Wednesday" builds.

I think we're more in the "Research it January, Accumulate AM February, Start it March" category.

Hey Klinker

I've just used the pointy ends of toothpicks to plug the holes

Haha yes, I've got several kits in the started stage, including the Dragon E-100 and Dragon Schwerer Artilleriewagen in the background. I've lost a sprue of the parts for the Artilleriewagen. I have to get into my garage and have a dig through old boxes to find it. I'm thinking of upgunning it anyway to a Pz III Ausf J 50mm turret. I'll probably get some pictures and info about the builds posted at some stage.

How ignorant of me not to read the post properly But then why stop at two? A diorama of a Jagdtiger Kompanie would look inpressive

I'm the same, input of new kits far exceeds the completed output of kits from the stash

How about half-a-dozen on railcars being unloaded at a railhead ?

And of course the train delivering them would need FlaK cars, probably with FlaK 40s and Flakveirlings.
