I said "make" not "buy" I already have two of them, they're just in that ever growing pile that will probably outlive me.

How ignorant of me not to read the post properly But then why stop at two? A diorama of a Jagdtiger Kompanie would look inpressive

I'm the same, input of new kits far exceeds the completed output of kits from the stash

How about half-a-dozen on railcars being unloaded at a railhead ?

And of course the train delivering them would need FlaK cars, probably with FlaK 40s and Flakveirlings.

haha now we're talking! That would make an impressive dio!

Time for an update. The weather cleared enough to paint the last layer of dark yellow on the Jagdtiger yesterday. I'm going to temporarily attach the fenders using double sided tape in preparation of masking up the Jagdtiger for the Hinterhalt camo pattern.

I, too cannot wait to see the camo. I wish the weather here would warm up just a bit. It's abbout 22 degrees farenheit, and I 've got about 4 ft(1.25 meters?) of snow on the ground. Your model is still looking good though.

It's been a long while since I've posted an update on the Jagdtiger. I've been working on and off on it the past few weeks amongst other projects, adding olive green and red brown to form the Hinterhalt pattern. I have to add the olive green detail to the dark yellow patches, then will be giving it a coat of klear in preparation for weathering.

Here's some pics of progress

I'm not sure when the next update will be. Hopefully a lot sooner

Andrew,
Nice job here, Question on the camo pattern. Did you use a stencil with an airbrush or just free handed the triangle shaped spots?

Hi Sal, thanks for the comments. I use an airbrush for painting. For the camo pattern I've used blue-tac and Tamiya masking tape, using scissors to cut the tape into small irregular shapes and applied them to the Jagdtiger. The worst part was using a craft knife and tweezers to get them off after painting I intend to make a rubber die/stamp to paint the olive green shapes on the patches of dark yellow.

Hope this helps

Looking good!

Question on the yellow flecks in the cammo colors; where they painted as "dots" or irregular polygons on the full size vehicles?

Looking forward to the finished model!

I think they would be irregular patterns to simulate leaves

Hi Guys,
Thanks for checking out my update The idea of the hinterhalt pattern was to simulate sunlight passing through trees. I decided to use irregular polygons rather than spots on my Jagdtiger. I guess it could vary from factory to factory though?

Andrew, Nothing wrong with your turret #. Some one correct me if I'm wrong but I belive that the 3 number system gives you the tanks company/ squad/ tank number. I don't think I have it in the correct order but some one will know. Your doing a nice build there, looking forward to some more . bob d.

Hi Bob

I appreciate the comments. I knew how the German turret numbers worked when doing my first Jagdtaiger, it's just the actual number 445. I didn't realise the Germans only made 70 odd Jagdtigers at that stage. From what pictures I've seen online and in books, 330's seems to be the highest numbers on Jagdtigers. If anyone does have any pictures of higher turret numbers on Jagdtigers, I'd like to see them

Only one of the two Jagdtiger battalions used the three digit number system, the 653rd Schwere Panzerjager Abteilung. First digit was company, second was platoon, third was individual vehicle. It was organized as a 44-gun battalion (three 14-gun companies, each with three four-gun platoons and a two-gun platoon staff, plus a two-gun battalion staff). Highest number would be 334.
The other battalion, the 512th, was organized a a 30-gun battalion, but the first company used a white letter X followed by a one digit number, the second company used a white letter Y, often with no number, and the never completed third company appears never to have marked their vehicles at all. The three companies operated separately from each other, and their commanders don't recall ever even meeting.
