Hi there,
A Tamiya Horch for my Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe diorama is nearly finished.
Not the best kit I´ve seen, but manageable. The general paintwork is done and I´m moving into details like the canvas and seats. The seats definitely need more brownish tone.
I´d like to hear any criticism and comments on the general grey scheme and weathering.
The painting phases are shown in the pics.
Grey primer plus oil pre-shading wash:

Airbrushed a mixture of german grey and buff:

Decals and dark wash with enamels added:

Painting and weathering plus some pastel dust on:

I tried some paint chipping using dark grey enamel paint, pencil and toothpick. Toothpick was used to scratch the dark grey surface to dig up lighter grey primer. Drybrushing with buff.

It looks quite plain at this point and there are some parts to be added, but I think figures will make this thing more alive...
Any comments appreciated!

hi Toni nice job. In the last pic the vehicle looks like it's been out in the field for a month but it looks like someone polished the spade. :-)

Great paint!! Did you just add tissue over the kit folded top or did you make an entirely new one? I was thinking about building this for the Barb campaign and really like the job you have done on yours.
I think you may have knocked the right hand hook off the back, by the towing pintle, maybe while dry brushing? The left hand one is on there but I don't see the right one.

Great Job!!

Its there in photgraph 3 and gone photograph 5 .... maybe abducted by the UFO????
I love this finish ... grimey and dirty, yet all deatil is shown nicely. Love the tires and the way they are weathered.

I bought one of these cheap because somebody had knicked the crew out of it. Same thing when it was built. Its so big and square and empty, it needs a crew and stowage to add some life and also to hide all the ejector pin marks that are on nearly every panel in the inside! Remember to hide or camoflauge these!!

Very good weathering - one comment: I would dullcoat the model so as to reduce the sheen. It appears too "shiny."

I like the chipping...

That same UFO has visited my workshop on several occasions.
Very nice work Toni.

Thanks for all comments!

Cliff: The spade was just painted and it´s not wethered yet. It will have a sepia tone wash.

Keenan: The folded top is made of kitchen plastic rolled loosely and attached with CA glue. Those folds are perhaps a bit small for canvas that thick but I´ll see what I can do with the paintjob. I want it to have a slightly different grey colour from the chassis.
Hehe. The hook fell off as the vehicle attempted suidide by jumping off from the table. I catched it mid-air and only broke two parts loose. I forgot that hook, thanks for pointing that out!

Plasticbattle: Thanks for the pointer about pin marks. I´ll think of something to cover those...

didiumus: The model will have a dull cote layer in the end. Which means pretty much now. I don´t want to push the weathering any further.

Thinking about the UFO...I have difficulties determing the design for that. I have some doubts about my scratchbuilding skills and fear that it will look toyish in the end. There is one possibility though. I can always cover the whole UFO with camo net and the situation is that they´re just removing it, so that you can barely peek what´s under it. Actually it could be quite exciting not to reveal too much...

Cheers,
Toni

I don't normally look at the German stuff on RRB but I did yours and I'm glad I did. Very nice job. I learned something here.

I posted a while back asking about a episode of THC's Greatest Raids where they mentioned how the Germans tried to create a LRDG type group. I wanted to know what vehicle they used. I'm pretty sure the photo they showed was like your Horch. In fact it looked very much like your first picture, except with more storage and weapons.
