Hi everybody.
I have been watching posts on here for some time. But this is my first post. If you are on MM you will recognise this model as I post a lot on that forum.

I recently completed figures for this build and added them to the T-34. The figures have retained a gloss coat despite my spraying with a matt. So I need to get that corrected some how?

I was wondering what people think of the effects on this model and the appearance. I think in someway the white is just to bright or something. In any case some help and suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks
Mark

thanks Guys and see you soon ! as I will try blogging something here soon

sorry an edit cannon image host is a waste of time the URL kept changing??

Good job on the figures.

Try Dull Coat that might help better light mist coats.

The tank well that looks pretty decent to.

Good job Mate.

Welcome to Armorama Mark.
I like what youŽve done so far ... heavy weathering and T34s go so nicelt together.

I have the same feeling when Im at this stage of my models. You have dark green showing through ... very bright white camo ... and then stark orange rust. In my opinion, these should be toned down/tied together. I normally do this by spraying filters. Filters are very thin paint (or dirty thinners?), but they will add the same hue overall.
Your green and white are cold colours, but the orange is a very warm colour ... and in someway they donŽt work naturally together. Id use blue, purple and black filters to give it an overall colder appearance. This will both tone down and unite the base colours in the process.
When this done ... youŽll still have a well weathered model ... heavy chipping and rust ... but it lacks one important element ... dirt! This will make the previous more believeable as well. Take from this what you will .. hope it helps some.

Jeff and Frank
I want to thank you both for comments and advice ! It is great to hear some honest opinions from other modelers.

Im going to try spraying Vallejo matt and see how it goes

Frank - I think you have hit the nail on the head, this was what I thought was missing that homogenous appearance. I used MiG filters previously to tie together tri-tonal camo. Im going with your advice and will try using some acrylic paint filters. I like the idea of trying a purple or black. So I will give it a shot soon

On the other point - yes dirt. I have experimented adding mud and such to vehicles. What would you recommend? That I apply 3-d mud into the running gear or use pigments to build up some dirt? One idea I have now with your advice is to use some Tamiya diorama paint (the grass effect) to add some muck to the lower hull.

:) really big thanks for this.

Overall the weathering is nicely done and Frank's advice is right on the mark.

I would say, however, the rust a little overdone.
In reality few T-34s survived long enough on the battlefield to get rusty at all and even war time Soviet paint was better than that at keeping corrosion away.

Hi Mark
thanks for looking and offering comments. Yes I hit the rust to heavily on this model. I think the tracks are ok. But I think I was a bit to keen for the neglected equipment look. The idea was to depict a vehicle emerging from a long winter and suffering the effects of corrosion on parts of the metal. As if hinges and some of the components had expunged rusty water. Im going to with your very kind help -

1) Matt the figures
2) spray selective white to remove the overdone rust
3) apply dirt onto the running gear and lower hull
4) apply filters to create a homogenous appearance.

thanks again chaps !

Guys this is what I hve done so far. Again your help would be really appreciated.

1) I used vallejo matt through the AB it did the trick and matted both the figures.
2) I resprayed white in selected areas to take away the harsh orange tint that was heavily overdone.
3) I sprayed a tint of tamiya German grey (the colour I found between a grey and a black)

It has really toned things down, for the better

Ok Im not forgetting the dirt effects. But what else do you think this model needs? And do you think the look has improved. thanks again Mark

with images this time sorry..

Okay remove the bright rust from where the wheels ride over the tracks and use a black or gray color.
As all rubber would use a NATO black to remove the rust.

Some of that rust looks to watery to me like well a rust solution.

Rust is something where a little goes a long way.

Help any?

Looks good though.

That figure looks real good.

hi Jeff !
yes thanks again for feedback. I used a pigment slurry to create the rusty tracks and yes it does look to much like a solution. Im going to get some nato black back in the over done areas.

also big thanks for compliment regarding figure, im not a figure painter of any caliber - so i really am flattered

ok will get a move on ! btw this really is helping

Hey Mark The project is coming along. By now you've probably completed it, and moved on. I just thought i'd comment because i'm currently redoing a T34/76. I hope mine comes out as nice as yours looks. As far as having the weathering just right, I've a true story. Doesn't deal with weathering, but you may see my point. Told to us as young men by my best friends dad. He hardly ever talked about his combat experience in Korea. The dads best friend had been hit in the chest. He helped the medic cut off his shirt. Turns out he was hit by a bullet. The bullet, a hyper velocity spitzer(pointy tip) had driven a button from his shirt, completely through him, and the button was JUST under the skin, with the projectile touching it. The button wasn't cracked. I'm not a ballistics expert, too much math for me. My point is if someone says, it couldn't be that way, I think back to that story. So if i'm getting more from a build, than i'm putting in, and can look back and say, I enjoyed the hours i SPENT doing this, I'm good. I'm not talking about painting a vehicle used by allied forces in say BURMA, a winter CAMO. But, if it looks good to YOU then it IS good. CERTAINLY no disrespect meant to those who gave you advice. Constructive feedback, is what this forum IS about. Just another perspective. RONNY.

If you want an easy mud and dirt application, go to your local hardware store and look for 'stone effects' spray paint. There are four colors in this series and the brown comes out looking like damp dirt. Hope this helps.

I think you have a nice start here. I would suggest that the next time you apply a white wash, try using various shades of white to add more depth. Forgive me if the pictures have tricked me but, I would say the white is to much of an artic white or to pure and clean white. I like what you have done though.

Your T-34 looks abit rusty still. The figures are wearing Summer outfits (?) if it was spring the white wash would be more worn. Also- You might want to get rid of the mounting tabs for the fuel cells on the hull sides, they wouldn't be there in reality.....

Ouch! Jealousy..... Untalented? You don't even know me OR my work. I was merely trying to point out some things in his build. I, in no way meant to offend.
