Hi Gino
can you remember were the replacement wheels came from?might try swapping them with MIGs crap pick up truck tires!

The wheels were off a diecast 1/32 Ford F150 that I got at Wal-Mart. I don't remember the brand, but it was with the other diecast vehicles and painted black. Good luck.

Great work so far

One thing you could try - to get more of the 'shattered' effect, is to try using a thin smear of superglue behind the glass - it gives that milky, opaque look which you often see on shatterd glass...

Thanks guys.

I washed the damage windows with some white and that made them look better.

Next update won't be for a while though, have to go out of town for a few days.

Wow I can’t believe I missed this one. Really looks great Gino, I especially like the rear tire flatten and ground up. Let me ask this…the resin hummer seats, if they were re-worked some would they have worked in place of the ones that came with the truck.

For the next future build…I did a NASCAR car that was tottaly wreck. For the front and rear windows I used clear packing tape (3M Scotch) and placed it onto a thin clear plastic piece. Then I hit it in sections, pretty much pulverized it. After I was finished it looked real, even flopped like the real thing.

Looking good!

Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted and let you know how its coming.

Mother - thanks for the tips, that sounds like a good idea, I'll keep it in mind. The seats actually are very well detailed and look exactly like Suburban seats. The only area they are not good is where they meet the floor. I can live with them though.

Its been a while since I have had a chance to make any progress on this one. After finishing a couple other projects, I have started to hit this one hard. I have finished up the figures and am currently working on a base. I built the Trumpeter Private Military Contractors (PMCs) VIP Protection Detail figures pretty much straight from the box.

They went together pretty well and I had no issues with them. I have heard all sorts of stories about how bad they were supposed to be, but to me they look pretty good. They do have some large feet, but they don't look too bad to me. They may be a little short too, but we'll just chalk them up to being short guys. The weapons are really nice and they come with lots of different scopes, laser pointers, flashlights, etc. to add to them. They also come with a bunch of extra gear to put on the figures. I think I only used about half of the gear and weapons add-ons.

Here they are.

A couple close ups.

I am also working on some T-walls and K-rail road barriers that will be used in the dio.

That's it for now. Let me know what you think so far. I'll keep you posted on further progress.

Thanks KoSprueOne. The barriers were first made in plastic, then I made molds and cast them in resin. I like the way they look, next I need to paint them up and get the base put together.

Don't know how I missed this one, but it's a great idea. The work on the Escalade - Suburban is really nice.

You should post some pics of your conversion over on AutoModeler.

The dio is complete. I made a base out of a wooden plaque from the craft store, stained and sealed. I did the road out of spackling compound and painted it black. I added the lines with white paint. I weathered it all with a few different shades of sand and dirt in craft acrylics. I added some debris around the wall and barriers in the form of some Arab newspapers, a water bottle box, and a couple empty water bottles. I also added some Iraqi posters and a traffic sign to the T-wall as well. I damaged the wall where the truck impacted and added some concrete debris around the bottom too.

Here is is:

From ground level:

Some close-ups:

You can see the debris well here:

And the damaged wall:

A few more pics here.

As always, all comments are welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

Wow Gino, this looks great. I really like the layout and idea, very original.

The only thing I'd say is that if this an ambush, the VIP seems quite exposed where he is. Maybe if he was using the doors as cover perhaps? But this is just a small point.
The dio looks great, and the unusual base is very cool.

Looks great Gino! I love the damage to the wall and hood of the car. Maybe skid marks would add to the scene.

Take care,
Austin

Thanks for the compliments and tips. I think the skid marks would add to it. Off to the bench for a touch-up.

Looks good. Refreshing diorama concept. The dusty sand paint around the barriers look real. I've never been to Iraq, but I'm in SoCal and it gets dry and dusty and windy here.

I guess they don't have bumpin' sound systems in those armored SUVs...

You would be surprised. The ones we had to transport the generals around in Iraq had the standard Bose 6-CD changer w/15 speakers system in them that my Tahoe has here in the states. They sounded pretty good.
