Do you want a kit that you can throw together with no hassle ?

Do you want something from WWII ? US or Commonwealth etc ? Or something a little later ?

Seeing this is your first armor model perhaps something reasonably straight forward may be in order, however seeing you do those 'wingy' things you will probably do a great job with whatever you decide on

Thoughts ?

Paul

Hi Paul. I think I would like to stick with 1/35 scale, and I'm not worried about having a more complex (mixed media or lots of parts) kit. What I don't want to have to deal with as an intro to armour is fit issues, gaps a mile wide to fill, or tracks that will end up thrown across the room

As for era, my main interest in aircraft is WWII, but I'm not necessarily fixed on that for this build, nor am I fixed on a particular country. I'm sure I will find a scheme that will take my interest, but my main aim is to get the basic kit choice right to start with.

Cheers, and thanks for your help, Damian

Hey Damian,

Check out prices on e-bay for Tasca Shermans. then check some prices in Aussie online Hobby stores. At the moment VC Firefly's and Mid M4A1's are going for about $US 40 then add postage on e-bay. You may be able to get something cheaper.

E=bay example

Stanbridges in Perth have them for between $A41 and $47 check them out:

Stambridges M4A1 Late

Stambridges Firefly VC

I'll keep and eye out. The Tasca Sherman's are the 'Rolls Royce' of 1/35 Shermans. You can get a kit at a good price sometimes - they're out there, and you won't throw any tracks etc around

Every one,

please remember to go to the Campaign tab, select the Sherman Campaign, and then hit the 'Enlist' button - otherwise you are not 'good to go'.

Oh Nooooooo !!

Another 'Shermie' to get (I've sent Tasca a note about Pre-orders).

More options from Tasca can't be bad...

Lets see a Jumbo, some Hybrids (inc a Firefly), and a DD version !!

Here's a challenge for all of you in this Campaign ......

............if someone builds a 1/35 DD I'll send them one of my many Sherman kits for "Nix"

Either a DML or a Tasca

First in "Best dressed", otherwise my stash will go "bust"

Cheers

Hi Paul,

Yip, looks like another gem. I'm still hoping they will do a M4. I'll pass on the DD and await the mystical plastic kit

Ahhh.......... Yes Al.............. the Mythical 1/35 Styrene DD A bit like Excalibur isn't it ?

I've got some more Ultracast Resin Figs in the Post today.

For my Hybrid IC "Zemsta II" I've found out that the key for a nice Polish Crew will be the Berets....Pulled back (not to the side) AND some nice Polish Eagles from the Adalbertus Staghound Armoured Car Crew 1944-45.

I may end up entering this one. I've read nothing but great reviews on the Tasca kits, and I'd like to try one. But I'm trying to be really good about NOT collecting a stash, and just doing the one I currently have in front of me, so I guess it'll depend when I finish what's on the bench.

I'm also considering an M-51 (6 day war) as a second project in this Campaign.

I have the Dragon Premium M-51 kit in the stash,,,,,,,,,,,

I also need an appropriate crew....

Any tips on the M-51 and an appropriate AM crew ?

Cheers

Hi Paul,

The New Ic has been a long time coming. Is it 3/4 year now? When first announced I had the old Ic kit so I built it as an M4 Sherman Mk I Hydrid, of 144th RAC - still needs to be finished off!!

I then gave up waiting and bought the Orange Box version, which with the new kit may go the same way as the one above lol, lol.

I haven't built a Sherman in about 18 months/2 years, but I have been stock piling both kits, figs and AM over the period so have a good choice range. Hopefully the campaign will see a couple actually getting built.

The possibilities with the forthcoming Resicast interiors for the M4A4. Vc and M4AI, will add something new, especially a breech for the 17pdr.

Cheers

Al

PS Can't help on the M51 Crew I'm afraid.

Hi Paul,

All this talk of Sherman's made me uncover this one and it's friend the Mk I with a view to finishing them off . Get in some practice for the campaign.

This is the Mk I from the same Regiment.

,

needs a radio and some cable and like the Hybrid the stowage finished off. I have a couple of figures built for them which just need unit markings added.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

I use a mix of 50/50 Tamiya XF 61 Dark Green and XF 58 Olive drab with a squirt or two of Vallejo Yellow Ochre, stirred up until I get what I want. The Vallejo tends to thicken the mix up a lot so best applied with a watery brush.

Thanks Al,

I've tried this one in the past:

XF52 (Flat Earth) x 8 + XF26 (Deep Green) x 8+XF (Flat Black) x 1

I think I'll give this one another go, perhaps I'll make it a little lighter.

I am using more Gunze ATM (especially for German Gelboliv on Modern Bundeswehr armor), so I am interested in this Gunze Mix:

Gunze 80 and 404 in about a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 ratio.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks, I'll try something new on the new builds. All this Sherman activity got me back to work on these two. A bit of progress or not!!

Thanks for the great pics Al.

My last machine was a similar color to yours, I'm going to scale the color a bit more this time and make it lighter with highlights & a lighter base.

I'm really looking looking forward to this Campaign, there's plenty of time to go before we start.

All of you other prospective campaigners who are yet to join, are most welcome to enlist. Remember this campaign will go for 12 months, so:

1. You can enlist now and complete your contribution later

2. Enlist later (before the Campaign finishes) and start your model then

However early enlistment is recommended

Cheers

Me also I have one that is on the way.

I should finish this campaign.

I hope anyway.

Welcome Jeff !

What version do you have in mind ?

Paul

Either the Composite or the DV one the Cobra one M4A2 one I do have about 13 different ones based on the Chassis's unless they come out with something else.
Is it limited to just a Regular Sherman or Based upon the chassis's design.
Either way no problem.
Did I not read that also a Searchlight and Wrecker one coming out?
