Air guard hatches open, but not the cargo hatch.. which was rarely opened on operations anyway

Yes but it's the first batch, which won't have hatches open

Sam

Do you mind posting top shot pictures of your ASLAV PC and ASLAV 25... I need a guide for the anti-slip texture.

I'm torn between a ASLAV PC from AMTG-3 with the bar armour and an ASLAV PC from SECDET XIV with the MEAO upgrades (The stuff on the front as seen on your ASLAV PC build Sam).

Cheers!

The older rear body without the hollowed interior can easily be drilled out or ground out from the bottom up. A few careful drill holes from the top would certainly help in doing a clean job of opening the hatches. Make a simple mold of the top hatch with non sulphur modelling clay an make resin duplicates, grind out the undersides and insert the interior hatch detail seen in Sam's photo. If the inner rim is a bit rough use some thin lead foil or thin styrene to make a uniform flange. This certainly shouldn't be a show stopper, it'll just eat up more of the little time you have.
Perhaps you could buy the two hatches from Jason and move ahead with your build adding them later once the lions share of the conversion is complete?
Hang in there this is not over.
Bill
Edit: Sean PMed me with a few questions and I thought to keep the process transparent and for others to benefit down the road I'd rather answer here in the thread hope that is ok.
The red putty I used was from Canadian Tire here in Canada, it is automotive spot/glazing putty that has a laquer thinner solvent base which really adheres to styrene well. I bought one tube so many years ago I have forgotten. I like to use various putties of different colours to mark their effective application.I'll use squadron green or lately Tamiya putty first and then sand/tool and then the next time I'll use the red putty which really shows up well, it lets me see the blemish clearly and it has a fine grain.
The periscope material was a gift from Frenchy. It is a very thin foil/plastic fabric backed with an adhesive protected by a peel off paper. I believe it is intended for wrapping and it comes in a variety of colours and all are iridescent. Depending on the angle you look from they change colour much like the laser coating on periscopes. I chopped them on my "The Chopper 2"
http://www.nwsl.com/tools/cutting-tools-the-choppers-i-ii-iii
which really helped keep things square. The only downside is that the adhesive wasn't very strong so I had to attach them with Gaitor glue (thanks Scott). My use of the material wasn't perfect, I'd have made the foil a tiny bit smaller to let the housing of the periscope be more prominent.

Frenchy kindly sent me the link to his source for the foil, perhaps they might have it at Amazon.com as well?

Thanks Bill, you are totally right.

Sam, I am doing that now since I actually have time to do some research. Does anyone have information on this vehicle? It's the only picture I have found so far or an ASLAV-25 with MEAO communications equipment.

Pending more photos, I will be ordering the things I will need tonight

Jason,

I actually went for a AMTG ASLAV-25. I'll be posting things in a while. Right now I'm in the lab building a fork lift on a CAD program at school. Frustrating to say the least

The ASLAV-25 in the photo at the top of the page is a SECDET car. Not AMTG.
The "Comm's" didn't come out till around 2007 and AMTG was over by then.

The whole Sqn on AMTG 3 April 2006. No added comm gear.

Jason,

I just placed my order for an ASLAV-25 with bar armor. I found some money in my pocket so to speak I also figured I would be spending the money at some point so why not spend it now. I only bought components that I saw on a vehicle I plan on modeling. Also, I want to say thanks to you and everyone else thus far, it's been a steep learning curve and yet another project to the list. I will get the parts on friday or saturday, and begin building promptly

So here are some images of the vehicle I'm trying to model, I can't really make out the numbers or the emblem on the left side.

Jason or anyone,

I've been looking for the name of the car I last posted in pictures and with the numbers you gave me. Is there a way to go about it?

Hey Sean

I can't make out the name, but it'll definately start with a C for 3rd Squadron.

Correct me if I'm wrong but based on the call sign 32C it's 3 Squadron, 2 recon troop, "C"= 3 car in the troop... is that correct?

"Centaur" is the PC in the background...

Cheers!

That is correct Carmen. However (there is that bloody word again!!!) have a look at the PC "COOK THE MAN SOME EGGS" A Sqn 1 Troop? Change of C/S but retains the C Sqn car name.
But Sqn's are not called 1st, 2nd or 3rd Sqn. They have a letter prefix Alpha, Bravo, Charlie. Then the Troops are broken down into numbers. 1, 2, 3, sometimes 4 and SHQ. C/S letters Alpha, Bravo ect denote the seniority of the car within the Troop. And that word again, however, this can change between APC roles and Recon roles.

Well it took me a while but here she is.

No problem Sean. You can use my Generic ASLAV Tac (ACM35834) markings decals with Echelons to make up the names.

Cheers Jason
