Hello everyone. Thanks to my wonderful girlfriend, she has graced me with another kit which i refuse to leave to the stash that keeps growing. She bought me trumpeter's ASLAV-25 and I want to use a Mouse House conversion. However, I have my hands tied as to which one I want to do. Does anyone have any more information about these vehicles as to where they served and other photos in theater? I've got the basic information but I feel I'm not looking in the right places.

Also, what are some products out there besides the mouse house sets for this vehicle?

I guess this 21 year old will never be leaving the hobby the rate my kit stash is growing. Thanks again everyone!

If I can get everything before I go on spring break building will begin either on the 18th or 19th of this month.

Thanks everyone

Sean.... You're in it now.

I'm going to be starting my AMTG-3 ASLAV in the Fall... I've just finishing all my research so here's what I know that can help you out.

Jason Miller is the wizard behind the curtain for the Mouse House/Arms Corps Models ASLAV upgrade and acessories. The Mouse House website has ALOT of information regarding the sets, including a ASLAV guide. Jason Miller also has done a review of the Trumpeter ASLAV kit here on Armorama... do a search, save it, print it off and read it, it's a must!

On the Mouse House website they sell reference books.... Military Briefs #4 ASLAVs... this is in my opinion is the Bible on ASLAVs. Tankograd also has a book on The Australian Armoured 1st Brigade which goes through the different types, but doesn't really demonstrate the different phases... once you figure out the differences between phases (I, II or III) call me as I'm close but not 100% there in understanding all of the differences.

Real Model has a few sets... they have replacement wheels, stowage and jerry cans. The stowage set is pretty good, but you can get the wheels through Mouse House/ACM, and RM's jerry can set is not 100% accurate so do your research. MH/ACM has a set of their own as well... might help with the one stop shopping.

In the Military Briefs book the ASLAVs have seen deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor. Each deployment had either different phases, or different in field mods so again do your research. Bar armour in Iraq is one example unique to that mission, but wasn't consistent throughout the entire deployment there.

If you do some looking here on Armorama, there's a massive 24 page blog on the ASLAV including Bill Ritchie's ASLAV PC build... highly recommended! Sam Dwyer had a build article in Military Modelling Internation magazine about a month or two ago.

When I get going I plan on doing a build log here on armorama of a 2007 AMTG-3 ASLAV as seen in Iraq (Simular to Sam's), but before the MEAO communications upgrade. Don't hesitate to fire me a PM if you have questions.... and don't worry... Bill Ritchie, Saw Dwyer, Jason Miller or Greg Knowles along with a million other Aussies will probably step up and help you out as well.

This should get you going.

Cheers!
Carmen

Thanks again Carmen, you always seem to come through, and yes I'm in the thick of this hobby now

Last Question for everyone, if I were to get a phase 2 conversion, what else would I need to make this accurate?

Need more information.... Depends on alot fo things....

You should scour the ADF website, find a version or a picture of one you'd like to build... maybe not specific to the picture but "something like this" and we all can help you out.

Search on words like this:
Operation Slipper
Operation Catalyst
SECDET
AMTG-3
CIMIC
ASLAV Iraq
ASLAV Afghanistan
etc

The only other thing I forgot to mention before is decals... ACM has generic ASLAV markings, Echelon has ASLAV markings for Iraq... hard to find but I think Mouse House has a few left in stock. This is important because markings changed for the different deployment as well.... Big Red Roos...

ACM also has figures for the ASALV... highly recommended because it comes with a painting guide and the patches for the uniform.

Perfect. Carmen, you've always been a very big help.

Just looks like this one will actually get finished because I won't be waiting for any parts.

I will be building the Phase 3 APC with RWS.

Now time to crack out the card

Sam - Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!!!! Two more builds! Super excited! Please tell me you're going to do more build articles! After seeing your PC I may have to up my order with Jason to include the PC parts.

Jason - Thanks mate! I patiently await!

Does anyone have a diagram of the non-slip surface? for both the ASLAV 25 and ASLAV PC?

Sean - I told you the boys down under would chime in... whenever they got up, or got home from work... time change can work against us sometimes.

I just went back and re read this thread and you implied that you'll be scratch building this one without the aid of AM parts or is it that you already have all the AM parts you need?
I have subscribed to this thread and happy to have something to watch that interests me a lot, good luck.

Bill,

In the past, I haven't been able to build exactly what I want because I've been waiting on things to be released, like Slat armor for an MGS and mine plates, or loosing interest in something, or my biggest factor, being away at school not having the time to build at all

I will have everything by next week and hope to build very promptly. I will only have a week's worth of time or a little less but will return to it two months later. I will bring figures back to school with me to paint however, which should be very fun, if I don't kill myself first haha

Holy Mackeral is right!! If he's not helping out our economy he just boosted Australia's! Luck for you the exchange rate is in your favor...

Jason - Sorry dude I can't let you off the hook that easy....

What are POLs? Are these the cube parts on the front right and left of Sam's ASLAV PC? Anti IED/mine? If not what set are those in??
Is the towing A Frame similar to the Abrams?
PC Stowage set.... don't tease....

Oh.... has anyone heard of any Bar armour upgrade set for the ASLAV 25/PC yet? I love the look of the PCs with the bar armour on the ass end only... I imagine it wouldn't be hard to scratch build (Since it's bar and not slat armour)...

Hey, I've been thinking.... does anyone think we have enough interest to get the website guru's to start an Aussie/ANZAC Armour Forum dedicate to Aussie/ANZAC armour here on armorama? I'm totally ok with it remaining under the Modern Armour Forum... I've seen a huge increase in interest and input regarding this subject over the past few years and wondered if there is enough interest to put it under a separate Forum??

Thoughts???

I'm in. One thing that really drew me in was the camo scheme. It's much more pleasing than a single color camo scheme. Overall, I just think I have an affinity for modern equipment where the unexplored is exactly what catches my interest.

POL's are Petrol Oil Lubricant jerry cans - i.e regular metal ones, not plastic ones designed for water.

The cubes and stuff on the front of my PC are 'communication' boxes.. well theyre from the ACM 'MEAO Communication equipment set'... Obviously I cant say exactly what theyre for due to OPSEC!

And the PC stowage set - thats something i'm working on for Jason.. watch this space!

Every time I get an email showing a response for this thread it makes me so much more excited about the aspect of building this vehicle.

Scratch that, looks like I may have to hold off on this build. I think the MA120 ASLAV PC Phase III set I was going use is the older one in which the hatches don't open

Really disappointing because now the cost of things may be too much for me now.

We'll see what happens
