In that scale I believe all you could use is very fine wire and give it the appearance of barbed wire by showing things stuck to it, or by its placement so that the eye sees barbed wire.

Have to agree, wire at that scale is not going to be very visible. I would pay attention (as noted) to the "X" brackets holding it up, or the high concentration of criss crosses or the circular layout of modern wire.

Hi Paul

Here is your link to a feature showing how to make barbed wire. It's the method Steve used to make his. It's aimed at 1/35th scale by its size so you'd need to reduce your wire thickness and distances to suit.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

I'm a braille scaler and I use the same methode as in the tutorial Alan posted. I use coper strands from electrical wire, this is a bit over scale but it gives a good effect, see my results here:

On missing linx someone posted another methode:

3 methods i have learned.........

Method 1

A thin length copper wire, paint it with humbrol rust, (thinned with spirits approx 50/50), plucked the wire...small beads will form...once dry, wrap around a pencil....then brush with Mig rust pigments for ultimate realism

Method 2

If you take Alker Zetzer, or panadol that dissolves in water...the rapid kind....each come in small aluminium packets....The edge of the packet (around 5mm) is braided with small indentations. Cut along the edge of one row.....(no more than one dimple wide).

Once cut the aluminium naturally bends and forms a coil...with rough edges....just like razor wire.

Its difficult to explain what exactly happens....but its totally convincing...

If you need photos let me know.

Method 3.

Same as above, but cutting the plastic backing sheet of graphic design template guides...also if you need photos, let me know ....my ideas are wierd....random....i know.

Cheers Damian

Hey there,

I'm new to the forum but was just reading on some posts and saw your barb wire, I've been building a new scene and was having the same problem, It's a 1/35th and I wanted something to simulate barb wire or concertina....

I went to the craft store and bought a very fine floral wire "used for shaping flower arrangements" and was able to cut a long strip.

After cutting the long strip, then cut smaller strips and wrap them around the long strip. This will leave the ends of the wire pointing out, "your barbs" add as many as you like for the desired effect. It's a bit time consuming however, I think with a little work it can look really good..

Here are some pics..
