Hi guys....this is the Tamiya KV II...I have scratched the turret...added Edward etch and other brass bits..converted some of the hull, textured some cast parts and will add Friulmodel tracks.
...any help in finding a method of getting the barrel rifles would be most welcome

First of all welcome aboard the best site around. Nice model so far SlapHead, keep on posting the progress. For what concerns the other questions I suppose you mean the rifling inside the barrel, in this case it's quite complicated and time consuming task. I've done it once with .25mm plasticard strips before glueing the two barrel halves, quite stressing but the overall effect was not bad at all...

Basicly for this model of KVII the turret is totally changed from the 'production' type...note the angled plates and differing roller mantlet ....the angled frount 1/4 plates, the rear plate angles and bolted weapon access plate..turret roof layout is also totally changed....have a look at a 'standard version' by a mate on WW2MM

Looks like you put alot of extra work into making a specific version of the KV-II. The pic of your buddies KV-II is awesome. The Tamiya KV-II kit is not a bad kit alone, although its ancient by todays standards. Good to see a change from constant T-34/85s. Hope we get to see more pics of your KV-II. I have one question for you: where did you get your reference for the scratch built turret ?
Good work so far, on a not so easy kit.
Cheers !
Robert

HI Lee ...opps...twig...It would be nice to see some plans of this...I have had to estimate a number of things (a friend in AMPS helped out) but I still would like to double check on a few remaining 'wonder if I got that right things'. if you know what I mean......so if I could take you up on the offer on those and ask you to kick start a quick scan I would be thankful for them...

Alasdair -- Your KV-II looks beautiful. You did a great job scratch-building the early style turret. Just a quick pointer, if you can swing it I would highly suggest replacing the wheels with either the Trakz or Hussar offerings as the Tamiya kit wheels are the worst part of the kit (well maybe second worst after the tracks). What tracks are you going to use on this beast?
Also, email me offline ([email protected]) and I can send you a bunch of photos and/or line drawings of the early style turreted KV-II for you to check yours against. I have a serious love of the KV (in fact, I am building a KV-II myself right now) and have quite a bit of reference material on them.

In regards to the barrel riflings, have you tried asking for the On The Mark Soviet rifling set on the different armor modeling websites (a.k.a. here, TL, ML, and WW2 Model Maker, etc.)? There has to be someone out there sitting on a set of those that would be willing to part wih them. You may even want to try calling OTM to see if he has any old sets lying around.

One thing I've noticed that you have wrong with your model (I have it wrong on mine too because I noticed it too late ) is the turret ring splash guard armor on the front and rear of the hull. According to my references, the only version of the KV that had that installed is the KV-1e with the add-on armor. Unfortunately, Tamiya stupidly chose to mold this stuff on to the hull and base other 2 KV models on this hull. Had they molded those pieces of add-on armor seperate, the KV-2 and KV-1C models would be a bit more accurate.

Adam, the thing you are talking about, is this the triangle thing right in front of the turret? If so do I need to remove it? As you know. I am also working on the KV II.

Dave--Yep. The triangle or "V" shape in front of the turret ring and the 2 rectangular parts at the rear of the turret ring. That also goes for anyone building the KV-1C from Tamiya.
