The good folks at AFV Club have been working on this one for a while now. It's the most detailed Stryker kit on the market so far. Stay tuned to Armorama for an in-depth review soon!

I would love to have a Stryker in my collection, but the slat armor has always dissuaded me. My understanding is you can't do one deployed to the Sand Box without slat armor, and the AM upgrades run $100+ (almost $200 for the RB Models set that includes three Eduard PE slat armor SKUs). Would this lovely engineering version also have the slats?

Yep this version has slat as well, currently the only option for a non slat stryker is one operating state side or in Europe training, and a few are being deployed to A-stan without slat, however these seem to be limited at the time being. This will still look like an awesome stryker without slat, and can easily built as one in the US.

Thanks, Rob, do you have anything on no-slat Strykers in Afghanistan? I just can't justify the expense and time involved in building a slatted Stryker. My modern kits are limited to an M1A1 AIM and a USMC AAVP.

There are lots of references out there now, however there are other mods. These include a Mine Protection Plate, Drivers Enhancement Kit, Tire Fire Suppression kit and there may be something I am missing.

If you search "Stryker Afghanistan" on http://www.defenseimagery.mil/index.html you'll see a load of photos with slat and alot without them.

If you can wait, GAOYUE said that Trumpeter is working on a Stryker with plastic slat.. something similar to what they have on their latest Challenger II.

My sentiments exactly Bill! I have yet to purchase a single of these AFV Strykers because of just that, the slats. Would love to have one in the collection though.

I tend to agree again, Bill...but is does look super cool!

By the way, is this the 5th Stryker variant AFV has released to-date? Trying to see if I have my count correctly....

Did just that and couldn't find a single one without the "bird cage" slat armor.

As to Trumpeter, how does their Stryker compare to the AFV Club?

Real Model has or will have the driver enhancement kit and mine kit that is being used in A-stan. With good photos, which are available, some of the more intrepid folks could scratch these items, and some already have done this as noted in past posts.

Of interest, the box photo shows the wheels turned. Could that mean they are going to help us out on that detail? Wheeled vehicles always look more interesting with the wheels turned. It is a pain to play around w/ cutting and repositioning/scratching parts to make that happen on the Stryker. It is sort of a snowball effect when turning the wheels. Once you cut one part, you have to cut another, shorten that part, lengthen another, etc. And then doing it a second time for the second set of wheels.

Bill... here's the link to the news item on Trumpeter's offering. I believe Trumpeter's Strykers have improved a lot. Don't know if they're on par with AFV Club's kits, though. I, personally, buy Trumpeter

Thanks, Hisham. Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison of the AFV Club and Trumpeter kits? I'm not even close to being an expert on this, but the Trumpeter kit looks decent at least.

Here are some, They must have been taken down. If you look closely under the MGS and M1126 you can see the plate.

Here's a comparison between AFV Club's Stryker and the very first one Trumpeter released.. which, as I understand it, has been improved a lot. I'm not an expert either, so I find Trumpeter's kits good enough to build.. especially the more recent ones.

Unfortunately, we probably won't see it in stores before the end of the year But I'll wait... Got a lot of other kits to keep me busy.. which is the only good thing about having a stash

Interesting pics Sean, of note though-the M1126's at least, appear to still have the stand off blast plates fitted to the hull sides.

I can understand peoples concerns about slat armor etc, but really unless you are planning on specifically building a diorama set in Iraq or Afghanistan, then the slat armor issue shouldnt stop you buying and building a stryker kit.

And to tell you the truth, it seems as if slat armor is just a thing requiring A LOT of patience. I will be attempting my first go around of slat very soon on a Leopard 2A6M and we shall see how far my patience goes
