A totally different vibe from Galilee and the Womb (of course). The colours are gorgeous. It doesn't strike at me the way the Womb does, but I can't help feel there is some slight malevolence to those birds. I blame Alfred Hitchcock for that though

Thanks for showing us the process.

Okay, the pics have been changed since 2 days ago
indeed I had one friend commenting my colours were totally wild on his screen so I checked and yup those didn't look like my diorama so what you are look at it just right now are the TRUE COLOURS. Sort of desaturated as the plan was indeed to get something less "wild" than in former dioramas.

thanks Hellhound appreciated

thanks Jeremy, the sky may hear you !

I know Andrzej I have been told

"bring life to death" is something you should say to my colleague Nico Cabaret as he tries to do just that -thanks for the great compliments!

Nige, just *try* to do some birds! It's not that time consuming and very rewarding when you end up succeeding one! Thanks for your support as always

Thanks Kenneth friend! Argh, "colour modulation" leave this to Mig!! I just try to do the best with my paints that's all!! very happy that I managed to help somehow -and good luck with your water!

hey Randy, just finally noticed your own work you're not bad either uh?

You're pretty right John-Paul, this diorama isn't intended to be that much "in your face" . i have a friend that jokingly makes a difference between "right art" and "left art", right art is classic, doesn't shock or move much -that would be this diorama, then "left art" is here to shock and destroy, that would be The Womb or pretty anything done by my colleague Nico Cabaret / Jenseits.

thanks to all!!

What a difference good photos make! This is now my new new favorite. The colors really come to life and the details really richly come melting out of the diorama and pull you in.

I do have one problem with the frame around the edge. It covers one of my favorite elements of water dioramas. I love seeing the edge of water, you did a great job of transitioning the water and sand. It looks like we get the chance to 'be' on the edge of the world. I will get over though, the final version is a finished product.

I'm really happy you have the opportunity to get paid and published for you art. It must be very satisfying. Congratulation.

Thanks Scott!
About the way the black frame covers the water or the edges absolutely not, that's an optical illusion as i don't paint the borders of the water, look at the picture where I outlined the borders.

ah well no, at the mo' the book idea would be the project from a friend where I would contribute with my dios
thanks for the support as always!

WELL!! This is awesome to say the least. You have portrayed death at forgotten battles(with birds! ), grisly death aftermath(womb), and now ' impending death from Mother Nature plot!' Fantastic! The bird arangement, their beginning movements of plot execution, to the sailors' thought of, "could they really collectively be thinking of me as a grand banquet main course?" Sinister indeed! A great scene that softly leads the viewer to the real possibility of the bird's dark intent. Go Birds!!
The colors of water, sand, metals, and creatures are truely realism in miniature. You do this so effortlessly. The sculpting of the sand is very natural and your water is your unique signature that always has the viewer marveling.
Having been born and raised on an ocean beach, I can offer a couple small detail additions for your consideration. Maybe a small strand or two of kelp on the sand,or draped on the metals, or floating in the water. Remnants of clam shell in front of one of the conspirators. One has to eat to feed the plot, right? And lastly, bird tracks in the sand. Very light imprinting and random. It's amazing how such a large bird leaves such a dainty footprint in either wet or dry sand.
Always amazing that you captivate so many viewers for long periods at a stretch. Thank you JB! Now I can go back and see how you did it!
Cheers for nature's creatures on the winning side!

thanks Jan -you know one day i will end up building a sub -and you may sniff it from a long distance

Thanks Fernando friend I did have a great family hollidays indeed! very happy that dio makes you feel fine -see you maybe here with a new dio someday? or via the usual off kitmaker line

Thanks Steve friend, I feel guilty I didn't checked ina long time your progresses in fig sculpting

Thanks for that great resume Rick -you're pretty right on a lot of stuff -most notable the "forgotten battles" one. Maybe I should model german to get more popular? aaah, only joking
Big difference between you and me, I model the sea from memory, just like the sea is a dream because I have always been living so far from it.So I don't add anything like shells, fishing nets, seaweed stuff like that because this sort of "pollution" doesn't stick in my mind..
There is also a practical thing about that, if I was to add a few small debris, this could kind of look like those were mistakes coming in a smooth rendering you see.
But you are definitely right -I definitely should have add some bird prints..
next time then !
And thanks for the great input!

JB, the key word of you is 'dream'. You translate your dreams into 3D like no other human I've seen. Don't ever lose that. Those suggestions I made are only maybes for your consideration. Nothing in your art is lost because they are not there. The premise of them being in there is to lull viewers that are very familiar with ocean beaches with little details of realism that really drive your dream's surrealism from common memorys and experiances. Real or fantasy? Re-enactment or fever nightmare? Who IS this man JBA?
In the end, everyone loves your art, everyone just sees a differant shade of your dream. Hell, I'm lucky if I remember a 3 second chunk of a dream 3 minutes after I wake up. This only happens 2-3 times a year. Count yourself blessed, my friend!
Cheers!

Thank you Rick, that's either dreams or nightmares actually. I realize that sometimes I dream things that are for me quite agreeable while almost everybody else whould say these are nightmares
But the man is me of course, as usual, but then I feel better than when I made Galilée
aah, no I don'tt hink everybody likes what i am doing, but that's no problem, if I were modeling fro teh others, I would do German WW2 stuff
Anyway, time to clsoe this post now, thanks everybody for viewing!
