Frenchy, does the track "tooth" always face inward?

And do USMC M1A1s have 1 or 2 spare wheels?

The guide tooth can face either way. On my pic, it faces out. There is no set number of spare road wheels carried. Each tank tries to have one or two on hand if needed, but it really depends on what your supply sergeant orders and how fast they get used up. Some don't carry any on them.

Thanks, Gino, the only rule for stuff on the tank seems to be "no rules."

Are the wheels mostly sand or green?

Either sand or green can be ordered through the supply system. Again, no set rules. Depending on what part number your supply sergeant orders, and what is in stock, you could get either color.

Another question....

The base of the radio aerials looks to be painted on some vehicles and black or dull metal on others. Any guidance on that?

The Antenna Matching Unit (base) comes in dark green with the spring section black. Some get repainted sand along with the vehicle. The crew is supposed to either remove them or tape them off when repainting, but that doesn't always happen. All that has to be taped off is the threaded topmost part where the antenna screws onto the matching unit.

Thanks. Now the kit has two stubby antennas I replaced with guitar string, and a longer thick one that I've left. What is your suggestion about that? Photos seem to show that longer kit antenna to be non-scale thickness.

Your antenni look correct to me. The two long ones mounted on the turret rear deck are radio antenni. The shorter, fatter antenna mounted on a post on the right rear side of the turret is an EPLRS antenna and is shorter and fatter than the radio antenni. The only thing I would change is the color. The antenni pieces are dark green fiberglass, over copper cores, and do not get painted.

Thanks, that's very helpful.

Can't remember a paint color "dark green fiberglass over copper," LOL. Any suggestions? Mine are semi-gloss black, but can be changed. Is the EOLRS antenna the same color?

Bill,

I just want to thank you, and Gino too, for going through all of these minor corrections. Makes my current build go a lot smoother. *grin*

Question for Gino, or other educated guys...

There are some ammo boxes in the legends kit that appear to be 40mm ammo boxes? Were these for the smoke grenades? Or are they used as general storage boxes for the crew? I see some tanks with them mounted on the bustle rack, others as regular stowage, etc.

Sorry for the confusion, the color is just dark green. The fiberglass over copper is what they are constructed from. The EPLRS antenna is the same.

The 40mm cans are generally used for storage. The 40mm smoke grenades don't come in that type of ammo can. They come packed in wooden boxes. 40mm ammo cans are for 40mm linked grenages for the Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher and a few other belt-type ammunitions.

It's such a great kit, I would be intrigued to do a second build with Army configurations.

Anyone have photos on the Guard tanks for NJ units?

Will do, Dave. Frenchy or Gino may have some NJNG pics.

Bill
Unfortunately, the only NJNG picture I've found so far is a small one, showing a 5th Squadron, 117th Cavalry M1 back in 1998...

Still searching...
