Hi Tom,
Okay, thanks for the info on the exhaust stack.
No, I haven't painted the cargo truck yet. The M35A1 thread is still running. I haven't got ny airbrushes set up yet so I thought I'd move on to building the 49 Charlie while I'm waiting.
I'll be posting more on the cargo thread step by step through the painting process when I get round to it.
Hope this helps, Tom.
Joe.

The M49C series ran the same course in Vietnam as the M35 series. The original M49s were there first, then they were either upgraded or replaced by M49A1Cs and later M49A2Cs. The cab, exhaust layout were the same on similar model numbers for the M35 series (i.e.: exhaust along the frame and exiting between the right side rear wheels for the A1).

Hi Gino,
Thanks for the help. I noticed that the tanker sits above a cargo bed. The later models appear to be sitting over an M35 cargo bed where there is no rear wheel arch but the earlier models have a rear wheel arch like on the M34. Does that make sense? And does this apply to my earlier question?
Joe.

Yes, the original M49C had bed sides like an M34. The M49A1C version switched to M35-style bed sides.

Hi Gary,
I totally understand what you're saying! We've all been 19 once!!!!
Joe.
with a one track mind set!!!
Seriously, sometimes it was three to four months before I managed to get back to the rear, and trucks just are not in your mindset. But like I said I think they'd be horizontal.

Hi Gary,
I've just sent an email to AFV Club to see if they will supply me with a few exhaust pipes (part #M12) from their M35A1 guntruck (kit #35034). I'm waiting to hear back from them. Fingers crossed, eh?

No real need for extra exhausts, AFV Club won't send them anyways. They don't sell/give away individual pieces from their kits. You can make them easily from solder or thin plastic tubing bent and heated into shape. A larger piece of tubing can be used for the muffler.
On another note, the M49 info was given in your "Most common truck in the 'Nam?" thread starting on page 11, with pics and links to the different types. Like I said before, that thread is full of good info, but way to long to reference or remember most of it. Thats why shorter, more to the point threads are better.

Joe,
I have tried dozens of time to try to cntact AFV. Thier customer srvice sucks. I have never gotten a reply. I have a couple of 2 1/2 kits missing parts. So if you do hear from them let me know how you did it.
