Hello everyone, I thought I would show you my DML Kettenkrad I built a couple of years ago. I have always liked the Kettenkrad and was excited when my daughter bought me the kit for Christmas. I was soon disappointed to find out that there was not an engine included in the kit. After contacting DML and getting the news that there was no way to purchase the engine, I decided to go ahead and scratch build one, as well as the cooling system, exhaust and many other details. It took me about 8 months to finish it up, but I had a good time and learned a lot during the process. 99% of the scratch built details are done with styrene sheet, rod or tubing. Only a couple of pieces are metal.
I did a full build log on another forum (mostly large scale cars and airplanes). I can post the link to it if that is allowed here. I don’t want to cross any boundaries and post something I am not supposed to.
I know it isn’t weathered, I purposely built it as a modern restoration. Enough of me babbling on, here are some pictures of the engine and a few of the details:
Thanks for looking.

Great build & detailing Mark
But where's the oil leaks & trash left in the bottom of the tub
That engine looks like she could be fired up & running soon

Fantastic is all I have to say.
Gees the engine is great.
Paint is good also.
Now when you scratch the Jeep one make some molds up so well you know.
Might temp a few to get one and install it.

Hi Mark. Outstanding build. Great attention to detail. What did you use for reference?
And please ... post a link to the site where the full build is. Id love to see more of this. And theres no problem adding links. We´re just glad to see that you´re posting here as well.

Frank, I searched the web for any pictures I could find. I found a few forums that had pictures of restorations, and used those for the details. I also used a friends unbuilt 1/9 scale DML (ESCI) Kettenkrad to take measurements from. The 1/9 kit has the full engine, although not a very detailed one. There are a lot of wrong details on that kit though.

Excellent build. Engine is outstanding, but why didn't DML include it in something this size? This would actually put me off this kit, as the engine is visible from the "cockpit" and I personally don't have Mark's obvious ability at scratch building.

Sorry about that, I didn't realize that you would have to register to view the forum.
