At this scale this amount of chipping is great.
If you can pose the figure hunching over getting lower than cover that would help the scene. Also don't block the sight, wiggle the reeds to make an opening to sight through.

Pics soon by weekend as other more personal things to do.
One thing though after a closer observation I think no range poles but Gun cleaning rods, so they might get changed to well wood and the threaded ends.
