Funny you should mention the "thumbs up" icon, as I often run into situations where I would like to use one here in the forums.
Jeremey,
Great job on that ribbon and I to keep trying to find a thumbs up icon, I must have looked for 1 on several occasions. how do we talk to to get 1 added

Thanks Sal, I'm really glad everyone is liking the ribbon so far. I don't know where the emoticons come from for these forums, but I suppose we could start a petition in the Network Talk forum. It looks to me like there is one empty space in the emote box that would be perfect for the thumbs up icon. I know I've found myself wishing for that icon a good handful of times in the past couple of weeks or so, and I'm sure that there are a few other emotes that we would like to see on here. Ideas, ideas...

ideas@:)
I'm still trying to figure out what to build for this campaign. I would like to stick to WWII area. Does anyone know of some kits that come with Australian or New Zealand markings

Jeremy, nice ribbon!
Sal, I believe Tasca's newish Sherman III (with cast hoods) is also released as a limited edition "Italian Front" kit with NZ markings. Part number is OL-2...

Gang, am I right in remembering that there was a tracked vehicle prototype submitted to the War Office around 1912 from an Australian bloke? I seem to recall seeing an engineering model of a long skinny lower hull that might make an interesting project...

The aussie was Lance De La Mole, and there's a strong feeling amongst many aussies that his design was plagerised, though I'm not sure how much fact there is in the claims as it's never interested me enough tolook into. But apparently he sent his designs to the war office where an english officer rejected them but didn't return all the plans, said english officer ( Wilson ) then went on to be one of the inventors of the english tank. After the war the aussie government sought some sort of recompense but although the enquiry found that his plans were good, contrary to the report by the english officer that rejected them, they decided there was no case to answer, even though they did award compensation.
( BTW I have three photos of the model made by De Mole if you want me to post them up ).
Effectively the same thing happened to a frenchman named Levasseur ( sp? ) that came up with a design in 1903 that was rejected by the French war department who then went on to build a very similar looking tank in 1916.

Tasca's Sherman Firefly VC kit comes with markings for a 4th NZ Armoured Brigade 20th Armoured Rgt, C Troop HQ tank in Italy April 1945.

Sal: In addition to the two Tasca Sherman kits mentioned, the M13/40 Italian tank kits should come with Australian markings that include the big white kangaroos. I seriously would recommend going with the Tasca kits unless you are looking for a challenging project

I know that at least one of the Bronco Staghounds has Australian decals, but I believe they are for a vehicle based in Australia at the end of WWII, and another of the Bronco Staghounds comes with New Zealand decals.
Tom: Much thanks!
That prototype tracked vehicle you guys were talking about sounds interesting as well, it would be nice to find a picture of it, if for no other reason than to post it here in the thread for kicks.

The Tamiya LRDG truck also has Kiwi markings, and Bison Decals do sheets of Aussie and Kiwi markings. Not sure but I think Echelon do too.
If you want to go seriously obscure WWII there's always the aussie built Sentinel tank.

I'm still trying to decide if I will sign up as I know I'll probably forget all about it by the time I get through the to-do list and start something new though I'd like to do a kiwi White Scout Car.
For those interested this is the De La Mole tank. This s his model that is now in some museum in aussie.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing! The track link design is very interesting, almost makes me wonder if they would work as paddles

And I wondered if any of the SAS/LRDG kits had some markings with them.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help with the ideas. Here is where I'm at; I wanted to do something other than a Sherman, just built 1 for the Sherman Campaign, I also just recently built Tamiyas M13/40 with Italian markings and their SAS/LRDG car with British markings, for the Special Forces campaign.
So i guess I'll look into 1 of those Bronco Staghounds kits.
I still have the Australian markings that came with the M13/40 does anybody know if there were other Axis tanks that the Australians used
Maybe give me a little more verity and use those marking

The M11/39 also used the kangaroo markings. Check out
this page for some info regarding the picture below.
Australia also used captured Renault R35 tanks, however I have not seen any pictures depicting anything other than a small roundel on the turret marking it as a tank in Australian service.
You can find more in these links:
http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/aus/Australian.htm [url=http://put.url.here]lhttp://www.awm.gov.au/blog/2009/06/03/the-girl-on-the-badge//url]
Regarding the Bronco Staghound kits, you are looking for the ones with the turrets on them (not the Canadian model with the rockets mounted on the sides). The Staghound with the Crusader type turret should have New Zealand markings for one vehicle, and the Staghound with the tiny Sherman looking turret should come with Australian markings for a vehicle based in Australia in 1944. I can't remember the kit #'s or the model designations for these vehicles for the time being, but they should be easy enough to find.

Thanks Jeremy,
I just check the hobbie shop website that I order from and they have 4 different Bronco Staghounds
I never built a Bronco kit so it will be a new experience all around. So I will probably go with one of them, now to decide which 1 or do I get them all

Hay gang it is good to see you all embracing this campaign i think it is going to be a good one with some of the builds you guys are planing.
I am just thinking the campaign starts the day after my 30Th birthday, could I get away with getting the whole mouse house set for both the AS-LAV and AS-LAV PC and calling it a birthday present to myself

Dean,
Thanks for the De La Mole pics! Would a model of this model qualify? Seems a shame not to build one, seeing as the designer thoughtfully painted the dimensions on the side...

Cool ribbon! I might have to join up just for the ribbon...

Have a Matilda with conversion set in the stash that would fit. I'll decide when the start date comes closer.
Cheers!

If it helps I believe the model is in the possession of
The Australian War Memorial Museum Might be worth a shot at the research centre.

Dean,
Thanks for the link! I'm glad we have a little time for research before the off.
(I can't believe I've booked up next year's builds already!)
