First time 'hair spray technique', so I was a bit nervous. The job on the Tiger went well up to this point, and I didn't want to ruin it.
But...I really like this technique...it isn't difficult actually
I bought me some cheap hairspray and give the Tiger two layers...after that, the masking began:
When the hairspray dried, there were some small cracks...maybe cause I sprayed the hairspray a bit too thick...
and then the fun began: the chipping
I need to do some cleaning up afterwards and some varnishing...but I think she looks quite alright...what do you guys think?
cheers

Hi Wouter,
Let me first say that your build is awesome. I just recently bought this kit and was wondering where to get started and how. The journal you have laid out here is the perfect guide for me. The hairspray method and paint job is looking great. Keep up yhe good work. I am starting my build right now.

thx for the compliments mate
I can tell you one thing: you won't regret having this kit...it really falls together nicely and is a lot of fun, even without the aftermarket stuff...so, have fun with it
and don't forget to post pictures of the process...always nice to follow a good Tiger build ^^
cheers

Hi Wouter. I haven't tried the hairspray technique but you make it look easy. Well done.

thx for that Craig
Very little progress today...I primed the tracks and added a bit more 'damage' to the whitewash to hide the heaviest cracks in the paint...after that, I fitted the tracks as a test:
As you guys can see, I might have to add a tracklink or three - four ^^
I also had difficulties adding the guidehorns in between the wheels, hence the 'floating' of the Tiger on the tracks...have to figure that out...
the space between two wheels is a bit too narrow for the guidehorns
the last figure was primed too...very crisp details on it...
now is the next step sealing the paintjob, adding some WW tot the wheels and painting of the tools and exhausts...
cheers

I continued a little bit today...I sprayed a layer of Vallejo matt varnish and after that I painted some of the tools black (I got that method from my Modeller's guide to the Tiger tank and I really like the effect) - but I need to do some touching up. Next step will be painting the tools and the open hatches...
after that I started on the exhausts. I painted some burnt sienna oil paint onto them...after that I used my MIG rust pigments set...I added some standard rust and after that added a bit of light rust, ending with some black smoke on the top of the exhausts...
first time I did it and I think the result is quite ok...the only thing I should figure out is on how to remove the excess because on the engine deck and backplate I have some rustpigments...
cheers

Long time since I updated apparantly
Tiger '100' is almost finished. Some smaller details and weathering have to be done, but other than that I'm going to call it a day
Thanks for looking

Great Build! I got this kit the other day and really like your build and will follow it as a guide. Great job on placing in the contest, I agree it is a real motivator. I placed 1st at a local contest and it was a good feeling and also a real motivator. I can't wait to get started on this kit, just a few others in the que before it. Semper Fi

thank you for the great comments fellas ^^
I finally managed to take some final photos of this Tiger. I added a TaNk models crew and that's about it. My first figures ever so don't be too harsh
Cheers

OK, brace yourself...
I think the turret MG sticks out a little too far, maybe 30%.
You've sealed the ventilation hole in the engine hatch, by placing the flat panel on it. This hole was sealed only for underwater travel.
The vision port on the left side of your turret is upside down.
You placed the spade and axe as instructed by Aber, I suppose? The kit positions are correct for '3' and probably '100'.
The hammer was squeezed in between the wire and the hatch, sorry if the kit hole is wrong.
David
Wouter,
First off, despite the thread being 5 years old, wanted to say spectacular job! I ended up buying most of the aftermarket that you did, and plan to follow most of your build/paint plans. Fantastic!
I did have a few questions for David Byrden, though, if he happens to read this. You mention the MG out too far...did you really meant the hull MG, or is it really the turret MG? The turret MG seems awfully deep as it is...it needs to go in further? I could't figure out the upside down vision port comment. Would it be possible for you to point out the specific detail missed (maybe circled on a photo)? Secondly, I cannot figure out where the hammer would go...you wrote that it was mounted 'between the wire and the hatch'. Again, could you possibly provided a picture to show this? I want to make my build as perfect as I can, but I won't come even close to the job that Wouter did, no matter how much detail I get right
