Hi Rick.
Your photos very help me. I preparing a set of LAVIII PE & Resin. Set will include a back blast shield. turret blast shield.
I wanted to also prepare LORIT set, but I'd have all the armor on the hull bottom to make a new, as Trumpeter has correct length. The same problem is with Hull. Since the problem is wider and the angles..

I guess that proves Trump did not copy RM?

Yep, two different kits so far.

I haven't compared the turrets yet, although Trumpy supplies the turret baskets in plastic does make life easier.

We'll get into it more as I carry on, but i'm pretty sure most of the parts like the side hull details will fit, not sure about the spare tire attachement points.

All in all it is a good kit, just some dimensional issues, but for an OOB build of CANADIAN kit it's still very much acceptable.

The Trumpeter Lav-3 is a Hybrid. It is based on an early version deployed to Bosnia , but with add on armour. It gives you decals for two versions. A standard CARC version with add on armour and a UN version, for Ethiopia, (but they had no add on armour issued for the UN tour) .
So, can you make it into an Afghan version ? Yes, but you will have dump the windscreens, turret and driver's. Dump the stowage box, add the field phone box, which is missing on the front antenna mounting unit (AMU) in front of the gunners position. Add extra stowage, crew stowage, water and ration case's, get ride of the jerry cans supplied that looks like the Israeli style.Add some 25mm ammo cans . And you will have a Afghan version.

The T type antenae mounts are the standard, I don't have a timeline of when the were first installed, but there were there since 2007 if not earlier.

The field phone box is on the Coyote turret, not the LAV III.

Sorry, should have said only a few had them attached, During my roto there were two LAV-3's with this box attached, not sure for trials or not, but one was with the forward observer with the artillery crews, with the LAV-3 with the antenna farm all over it.

The Trump kit will build into and early deployed LAV III.

If you want to build a more current version you would have to add a bunch of stuff.

Thanks Jaymes,

I actually have a plan for this.

I just got home from my LHS and another trumpy LAV III followed me home (weird how that happens).

So my sadistic little plan is to build three LAV III's at the same time.

One WILL be OOTB,... 100%,... no foolin around

One will be with the Real Models update set as pictured above.

And the third one will be the Real Models conversion using the AFV Club stryker as a base.

Just call me crazy

cheers

Have fun Rick!!

The Real Model conversion set for the AFV Club Stryker is sure a beautiful kit. It builds up very nicely and sure looks the part when it's done. Here's mine with Real Model figures and add-ons plus some extra scratchbuilt bits.

I wonder why the U.S. Army Stryker armored brigades are not equipped with a 25mm cannon in the LAV-III? I think the 12.7mm machine gun and 40mm grenade does not have enough firepower to solve the problem (in some cases). Perhaps it is a pity.

Hi Rick

Thanks very much! The ammo can decals are from an out-of-production Quartermasters Depot set I've had for awhile. They crumbled badly but I made out alright. The orange warning diamonds are handmade and printed on regular 20lb bond paper on my inkjet printer and then peeled and peeled again with a sharp blade to the thinnest layer I could get and then attached with white glue. Here's a closer shot:

Can't wait to see yours finished.
