Leopard 1A5DK

This represents my build of a Leopard 1A5DK from the Danish Forces in Kosovo (KFOR) in the early 2Ks. The base is an Italeri Leopard1A4 which is without any comparison superior to Tamiya’s kit. I have used Accurate Armour’s update kit for a Danish Leopard 1A5. This kit gives all the basic parts in resin but also includes new wheels, some PE parts and a wire. The parts for the dozer and those to update it to DK-standard (the two rear boxes) are from DanScale, a company now sadly out of business. Finally I replaced the barrel with one from Perfect Scale Modellbau and the tracks from the same company.

Your KFOR Leopard 1A5DK-1 turned out excellent.....that is exactly what I have planned with all my conversion parts!

oh yes, I like this Leopard very much! The whole thing is very impressive: conversion work, colours and aging, simply excellent!

It makes me sick that Dan Scale is not longer and else nowhere available.

I still hope that somebody is willing to give away his second or third dozer and the conversion. 'Hope is the last that dies!'

Here are two close up of the APU box (on the right) and the tool box (on the left). Both parts are from DanScale; unfortunately I was not able to buy a complete set so some minor things had to be scratched. But in all they are more Danscale items than scratched ones.

If you study the pictures of the completed model you’ll noticed two changes I had to make after the initial paintjob. First I had forgot to make the shield between the turret and the APU box, and secondly, a set of brackets for a searchlight had to be removed (I discovered that they were not applied until the Leopards formed part of the SFOR).

Doh. As I re-read the first post I see you mentioned they were Dan-Scale. It's a shame those parts didn't make it to the Accurate Armour rerelease. Do you know the approximate dimensions on the APU and AC boxes?

Thanks for the closeups. The jerry can straps look very realistic.

As promised, here are some basic measurements of the boxes of a Leopard1A5Dk-1. Hope they can help.

I would like to direct anyone interested in modeling one to Barbarossa Books’ Leopard 1 trilogy. The volume with foreign users contains a 1/35 scale drawing of a Danish Leopard 1A5Dk-1. It’s not entirely accurate though; the APU bow is a bit too long compared to my measurements (AND compared to DanScales kit).

Hi Kenneth, like all the others said before: this is a great Leo, and it is really a shame that these parts of Dan-Scale are obviously lost. Does anybody know or remember who was behind Dan-Scale and if the masters are still existing? Would be a great deal to bring them "back to life". I got a good contact to a German resin enthusiast and I am sure that dozer and Danish parts are a still a good subject for a re-release.

I agree they are great conversions.....I was fortunate enough to get the complete Leopard 1A5DK-1 conversion, dozer blade, and a great set of modern Danish tank crew figures.....it would be excellent to see the conversion parts back on the market.

Mouse House makes one but it's lacking the extensions found on the Danish dozer blade. Here is the review:

I’ll try to contact him with your requests; whether he’ll comply or not is a bit uncertain though. Niels only did this as a hobby for some years and I think he became a bit worn out about the immense work that it involved. As most of you know he sold the parts for the Leopard 1A5 and the PNMK to Accurate Armour. It baffles me too why AA did not accept all of the parts for the Leopard A5DK1 and the parts for the dozer, but they may have thought that it would not give a satisfactory turn over – who knows.
