These guys have got it. I've done it on three or four vehicles - two in a current project (one recent one was an M20).
Here is a mid-process shot. Cut inside the 'ball joints', cut the stearing arm. Add a wedge, I put a flat disk in and sanded it down. Then reconnect everything.
Edit - the angle on this is really small. You can sand the white as much as you want to get more turning.
