Well, after I finally looked at the instructions again (acadamy version), the inside of the ramp/door is called for an olive brown color. So they obviousley made a complete mistake in the colors.

The kit was semi flashy. By this I mean parts like the turret and hull were flat, but the other parts were very flashy, lightly colored. Though I sprayed all sprues and parts down with Desert Yellow, so it quickly became I nice flat.

Thanks, Im building the Bradley along with an M1A2 TUSK abrams (home made conversion kit), and both will eventually be in a diorama. I'm trying to choose between a desert landscape, or a forest in the US. I'll put a build log along with it.

Hi Alex,
When we talk about "flash" in modelling terms, we're not referring to the surface finish of the part.
"Flash" is a term used in the plastic moulding industry (can be models, can be buckets - basically anything moulded in plastic) and refers to excess plastic which seeps between the two mould halves, leaving a wafer-thin sliver of excess plastic stuck to the part/s. It's usually an indication of worn or badly aligned moulds.

Actually, Academy is right on the internal color of the ramp. All the inner surfaces on the hatches and ramp should be the same as the predominant exterior color. Usually it is dark green on a NATO camo vehicle and sand on a sand vehicle, however, if the vehicle was originally NATO camo and repainted sand, the hatch interiors will usually still be the dark green color.

I hope you don't plan to put them in the same dio. They two vehicles are about 20 years apart form each other and did not serve together.

If I could put my two cents on where the M113 is going, and most already know this, like previousley said, it is being seller to third world countries, and first world (like Israel) to be experimented with. However, there are about 380-400 vehicles still in US service, while some are actually retained for NASA service as crew evacuation vehicles (to transport the crew from the space shuttle to a sterilization center). It's supposed to be phased out in 2018 by the US and replaced by the newer Bradley, and the GCV (Ground combat vehicle) program. I still think it should be maintained in service a while after. It could be a very good testbed for newer tech for APC's and IFV's.

Ah, okay got it. Not used to model talk and that's how Ive used the term. But in that case my model had no flash, except on a peice of cable you put on the ramp.

It's actually more of a future war diorama. But the TUSK hasn't operated with the Bradley. Whereby a few kits sent to Iraq and Afghan? I am aware though the TUSK has never had forest camoflauge.

With this particular version of Bradley. Academy kit is a very early version of Bradley, long gone from the US Army inventory. TUSK equipped Abrams tanks operated alongside current Bradley versions.

Alex, they are correct about the time differences. For a future scenario I'd go with a Tamiya or Academy M2A2 Bradley with the add-on armor for the general look and maybe grab an update kit (to an A3). Maybe someone can recommend one...Legends maybe. I don't model ongoing conflicts so I cannot really comment on the current Bradleys.

Sort of... All operational M1A2 tanks (straight M1A2s and M1A2 SEPs) are painted sand, not 3-tone NATO camo. M1A1 tanks are painted both sand and NATO camo, depending on the unit they are assigned to. TUSK add-on armor sets are usually found in sand and are applied to both M1A1s and M1A2s.
Bluestab and Pawel are right on about the Bradley version. An M2A2 ODS version (as in Tamiya or Academy's latest kits) is the version used w/modern Abrams in Iraq w/TUSK applied. To bring it up to current standards, you would need at least a set of ERA armor for the Bradley. The Legend M2A3 set is great , as is their ERA set. Theirs is the only A3 upgrade set on the market.
The M113 will probably be around for a while to come. According to this article published today in Army Times, the GCV is on hold and likely to be cancelled in favor of upgrading current systems.

Thanks, I forgot this was a 1991 Bradley. I'll likely get the Tamiya M2A2 as well, or just build the TUSK and a HMMWV TOW.

I'm mainly talking about the deep forest green olive drab, but it may be just a NATO camo as well. By the way, is there such thing as the Bradley Urban Survival Kit (BUSK)? It seems as though rumors circulate around it, yet I have never heard of it officially.

I have purchased Tamiya sky at my local shop, and no further answers are needed. However, you may still discuss any current topics. I wish I had gotten seafoam green, but my local store didn't seem to have the color.

Yes, BUSK sets have been installed on Bradleys in Iraq. The ERA on Bradleys is part of the early BUSK. Current sets include gun-shields and blast guards for the gunner and TC as well.

That is because no hobby color is made w/that name. The Tamiya Sky is the closest you will find.

What do you mean? This is a five year old post that you dug up. It is no longer a current build.
Why not start a post about your build as opposed to dragging up these ancient, no longer relevant Bradley posts?
