Hi this is the M4 DV from DML which I'm going recreate as a Baldwin hulled version with late turret (omitted pistol port and thickened cast-in gunners position armour)
I have only worked on the upper hull to present, but I think the kit comes with the angled rear hull bottom which needs to be the smooth curve type to exemplify a Baldwin trait. I should have a few lying around to use on this build.
Here are some shots of my building up of the thickened turret armour.
As original...
Here is the finished result as shown on a M4A3 turret I had made a couple of years ago...
The area marked out.
MagicSculpt is used here...
The finished part smoothed off. To this I added a cast texture from liquid cement.
This undershot gives a view of the thickness. Only needs to be about one scale inch...
This pistol port is to be removed.
Carved off...
Putty added...
Squeezed through. I let this set so I could sand it back.
After this, the kit antenna pot on the front right glacis will need to be removed as the Baldwin type is of a U shape when viewed from above and frontwards.
The kit type is of the Pressed Steel Car variety.
More on that later
Brad

Morning Bradders,
Looks good mate, well to the ignorant eye anyways
So a quick question: was the pistol port you removed larger than the one you're sculpting? Any particular reason you couldn't just fill the port in?
You going to have this ready to spray by October?

Too late now, but I've done the same conversion and found it easier to glue in the door, then sand everything down. Less to fill.

Hey Brad, I just started the Baldwin DV too in the Campaign; I started with the hull though. Will be interesting to see what needs to be done to the turret...

Thanks for pointing that out, Tony. That'll teach me to only look at the photos and not read the blah.

Brad, looks great. In addition to the antenna pot, the hull MG was also rolled welded plate from photos I have seen. There is a great section of photos in Kitmaker of a Baldwin DV that I posted the link to in another topic. I have to find them now.
