Some pics of my latest diorama, the Marder is the Tamiya model.
What do you think about the ground ? I tried to catch the Kharkov environment, as seen in many pictures.

It's a bad day when you're in an open topped SPG and the enemy is behind you...

Hi

Looks good to me.

I'm getting the impression that the ground was up until recently wet and muddy, hence it being churned up.

The weather then changed with a drop in temperature , freezing the ground, making the churned up mud frozen, with some snow starting to fall. Certainly a scene depicting further cold weather to come rather than a thaw. Is that the look you wanted to create? Hope so.

Aloha Durruti,

Looks very good to me. I'm many steps behind you with a similar diorama concept for my Axis of Armor Campaign Marder III.

I like the way your winter camoflage came out much better than my own. What figures did you use?

Great Job!!

Overall each component is good. The ground looks good, the Marder looks good. Together it may miss a little bit. The ground looks very muddy, I would expect the Marder to sink a bit more and for there to be more mud up in the running gear.
Now - if you're going for the frozen look , it's much better.

Nothing new for me to contribute here, a well done diorama with the two most outstanding features being the mud and the figures. As mentioned before, I too would like to see more pictures if possible.

Thanks to all for the comments.

The figures are Warriors with Hornet heads and one Tank, slighlty modified.

The idea of the terrain is taken from some Kharkov pics, where you can see that it was muddy but forzen, so the tanks didn't sink

I just add another couple of pics for a wider view of the dio.

Well done. I withdraw my critique, that photo sure supports what you've done. I like the added over head shot.

Nice job.

Well done, the snow- mud mix is very convincing.

Good figure painting also!

Yo Durruti,

Masterfull work! Great layout...fantastic painted figies.

Ground looks realistic to me...maybe here and there on the ground some little wet look with some varnish perhaps?

Great work!

Hi, I am not a big fan of the Marder, BUT, You did this one justice. Very Well Done. Looks Great as do the figures and the ground work, My only comment would be to show the Marders weight by lowering it into the mud a bit more. What material did you use for the ground work ? Great Dio, I like it ! milvehfan

Hi Durruti. I like this dio a lot. Nice whitewash, nice figures and nice ground work. Strong on all fronts.
Its totally believeable that the Marder wont sink into the frozen ground. Having lived in Sweden for more than 14 years, you start to understand how hard the ground can actually get. When you see cars and small trucks parked in the middle of a frozen lake, it doesn´t stretch the mind too much to believe a tank, with weight spread out on the tracks base, wont do much tearing up in the hardened mud.

Thanks again to all.

The terrain was made with putty for walls, vinyl glue and MIG pigment, mainly russian earth. The snow is the microballs type.

The limited sinking of the tank was due to the supposed frozen ground, but I agree that some more future could be sprayed just to make it a little bit more wet. However, my doubt is the following: should a frozen ground look "wet", which would mean melted ice ??? What do you think about ???

Thanks again.

Top notch figures I must say. Don't understand how people do shading on the clothing like that : o

Also why not a closeup of the area in front of the Marder? I see a oildrum and a dead guy? Wan't to see : D

Good work

Yup...the frozen mud and the Marder sitting on it look just right...when mud freezes it can be as hard as concrete..loving in Canada I know firsthand.....excellent painting !

Congrats Well done!

I like a lot the scene. It seems very dynamic. You haven't placed the tank in the centre of the diorama and that was in my opinion, a very good idea, because this way you 've moved the "focus" of the scene on the left tanker's arm.

Bravo!

Hi Durriti.
Brilliant work, well done! The whole thing works for me and I think the icing on the cake is the composition.
Just one thing.
Leave the mud alone. It's perfect and frozen. Please don't spoil it with a wet look!
Richard.
