Hello Everyone,
looking to confirm some designations for the next DVD. Canadian M113 FOVs have been modernized and are now designated as Tracked Light Armoured Vehicles, is this correct?
Is this photo of a TLAV with Remote Weapon System (RWS)??

Is his photo of a TLAV with DLRS Turret??

What is the M577 designated as now? Has TLAV suspension.

Is this photo of a TLAV Mobile Tactical Vehicle Light (MTVL) with DLRS Turret??

And what type of tracks are these and are they availiable in a kit?

I do know this is a TLAV Mobile Tactical Vehicle Fitter (MTVF)

Now, what are the next 2 vehicles designated as? I know they work in conjunction with each other.

And finally, are there and of the TLAV Mobile Tactical Vehicle Engineer (MTVE) with turret being used in Afghanistan??

Hi Ken
TLAV series =5 road wheels
MTV series = 6 road wheels
So it would be a TLAV or a MTV, not both.
I think the M577 is just the M577A3, still called a 'Queen Mary'.

Thanks Jim,
appreciate the information. I had an idea that the 6 wheeled version was not a TLAV, but had to be sure.
Again Thanks, members like yourself make this site valuable

Hey Ken,
Can't wait for the M113 TLAV DVD, I managed to pickup an extra set of tracks and drive sprokets from the Real Model TLAV conversion and would really like to build a Queen Mary as used in Afghanistan.

Rod

The tracks kind of look like the Diehl 513B tracks, but I'm not an expert on this.

The turret is simply called a "One Metre Turret".
Photo 1- M113A3 TLAV w/ RWS
Photo 2- M113A3 TLAV w/ One Metre Turret
Photo 3- M577A3
Photo 4- M113A3 MTVL w/ One Metre Turret
I don't think any of the M113A3 MTVEs have the One Metre Turret.....just the RWS.

Hi
from memory the tracks are the same on some dutch , german and danish M113's derivated (like AIFV).
AFV club has a really nice set but the tracks have duckbill extensions to be removed!
The first tracks are in the TLAV complete kit (Italeri M113+resin) done by BVM which is a brand of Azimut Productions. Sadly i don't think they sells the tracks+sprockets alone.
It's fantastic to have referencies on these subjects, Canadian's forces have really great looking vehicules.
One question :
TLAV with one metre turret was in Astan without slat , i am correct?

There's also a couple TLAV Amb (ad hoc variants) in theatre. There are plans to refit some MTV to dedicated Ambulance configuration.
I've got a slide deck at work with all the official designations. I'm away from the office for a week, but I can check it against what's been already stated here and let you know what the good idea fairy has planned for the fleet.
Why plan when you can react?

Hi Stephane,
from what I saw during my tour, only the hull had the slat armour, not the turrets. The slat armour actually seems to be a combination of bar and slats.

I still hopes that i 'll find pic of this versions without slat in Astan (maybe at the early area of canadian deployment), scratchbuild the birdcage is boring and too much time consumming.

The tracks are Diehl 513B and they are
available from Perfect Scale Modellbau.

I'm curious as to why some vehicles still have steel tracks instead of the new rubber ones?

maby because the rubber pads wear to fast down in afghanistan
our Dutch YPR's just drive around with tracks where the pads completely worn away. we also didn't get any new ones until the track was completly broken.
they wear much faster over there than anywhere else

Because some vehicles probably never leave KAF or the FOBs so they aren't riding cross country for extended periods of time....no need to upgrade vehicles that are base bound.
The Soucy track upgrade may also be limited to the TLAV series and not the MTV series....I can't remember seeing MTV series vehicles with the Soucy upgrade.

Yup, BVM....BVM had planned to released the Soucy tracks and sprockets as an upgrade set but I guessed they changed their mind.

Thanks everyone for the input. Like I always say, this is what makes this site so valuable to the armour modellers and enthusiasts.
As for photos 7 & 8, has anyone seen or know the designations of these vehicles? It appears to be a TLAV with mine rollers or something and a M577A3, but I think these versions are designed to work together.
