Jan,
You've done it again and although it was a long time in coming, the end result looks very good and somewhat different from the "style" that I have recently seen you using. Can't put my finger on it but is it somewhat more subdued? I know that it's been said before but that unditching log looks stunning and I just love that gunners sight effect!
Regards,
AJ

AJ, thanks for the positive comments, they are appreciated. As for a change of "style" and being more subdued, yes and no. The finishing process and materials are the same but there was that near eternal experimenting to try to take things that one step further. Granted, while it's the basically same finishing technique and colours used, I did mute them more than on my last few builds. I was quite flattered when members of the local club and people at the last show I attended used adjectives such as menacing, brutal or intimidating looking to describe the beast. Again, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Cheers,
Jan

@tread_geek – Jan,
Without a doubt your tireless efforts have once again paid off! I like your new style of weathering it’s much more subtle and the overall way that you’re doing the finish blends and ties in all of the colors together looking much more natural and to scale than when you first started posting your builds. I’m happy that you kept on this build even if it was over a long duration of time, good things take time! I think she looks better on the new base too. The vehicle numbers look painted on and the weathering and highlights on the tracks and running gear adds depth and volume. I’m still liking that ditching log, looks very true to scale and realistic.
I’ll be looking out for that second T-80, I’m certain it will turn out even better but not as special as this one!

@erhntly - - Erhan,
Thanks for the comment and glad that you like the result.
@Braille - - Eddy,
Thanks and I appreciate that you find the results of this "experiment" attractive. The result is not quite what I envisioned at the start but the more I look at it, the more I think that it may be the way to go with a modern subject. It's actually a variation on some of the things that I did with the Spähpanzer Luchs and the PzH 2000. At this point and from what I've seen at various model shows, this more subdued finish seems appropriate for modern vehicles.
The running gear painting was a long and arduous process but I think that it turned out okay. Surprisingly, the vehicle numbers actually are to an extent painted on. In it's original state they were quite badly dirtied by the then weathering process so I had to hand paint them back on over the original decals. You mention the unditching log and I am amazed by how many times that item has been mentioned here, at a local club and even at the first show that it was entered in. For such a simple thing it's getting a ridiculous amount of attention and comments.
Please don't anticipate that next one anytime soon! I have given it some thought and have set aside some "parts" to use on it including a far more in scale and detailed antiaircraft MG. I've even toyed with the idea of making it a different version of the T-80 but the idea of scatching all those ERA blocks just makes me cringe.
Cheers,
Jan
