My reward is the thanks you give me....the smile if I run into you at a show and the knowledge that I have past something on....All I ask is everyone try to do the same!

HOW COULD I HAVE MISSED THIS!!!! Mike, an absolutely great presentation!! Getting this type of info from those experts like yourself in artillery is really an honor!! As someone who mainly models artillery (WWII era but looking to switch to modern in the future) this will help me tremendously!

Your site has now also been bookmarked!

Thank you for sharing this!

Let me chime in on the praise here!
Being a ship modeller (i.e. arguably the most sophisticated gun platform) for a decade now, I always had a soft spot for field and anti tank artillery.
What really hooked me was a scene from "Laurence of Arabia" I saw some 30 years back for the first time. In this scene Mr. Dryden of the British Arab Bureau said to General Allenby:"Give them artillery and you've made them independent!". Even though the quote stuck with me these three decades I only got around to do some artillery modelling lately.
Now having done a couple of kits, I was pretty much at a loss what is needed for a proper scenic setting for those kit. Thanks to your presentation, I am not quite at a loss any more.
So thank you again for sharing.
I'd like to ask you - as a pro in this field - what would be your top 5 choices of printed reference on the common issue of artillery. Compendia with both text and pics to start with would be great.
TIA
Cheers,
Guido

Guido - Thank you for your comments.

As far as printed reference....that is a wide ranging question. I concentrate my effort on US Artillery so some of the commercial books I like

US Field Artillery of WWII by steve Zaloga
Allied Artillery of WWII by Ian Hogg
US Self Propelled Guns by Squadron
American Field Artillery 1941 - 45 by Paul Gaujac

A good general book of all artillery

Twentieth-Century Artillery by Ian Hogg

On Ammunition, The Encyclopedia of Ammunition by Ian Hogg

Then there is my numerous collection of US Army Tecnical Manuals on different weapons, Field Manuals like FM 9-13 Ammunition and special books

Vietnam Studies Field Artillery 1954 - 1973 by the Department of the Army

Many of the US Army manuals and books can be found online. Hope that helps....and yes, its a lot of book shelves!!

Thanks again

Many thanks Mike, for collating the info and letting it be freely available to others.

The sharing of information and experience by gents like yourself, Scratchmod (with his wonderful rusting tutorials) and the other usual suspects in the FSM lineup are what help make this hobby so great.

Hats off,
Lucien

Great slides Mike, especially interesting for a fellow artilleryman from a different country. Saved a copy to my harddrive. What would be interesting is more info on SP-Artillery tactics so I could compare to Swiss doctrine. Maybe next AMPS?

Cheers!
