Haven't been able to be on for quite some time, but got the internet connection up and wanted to stop in and say hi. And show ya'll one of the latest builds for your approval.
Opel Blitz 3 ton. Truck coal engine. This is the Italeri 1/35 scale kit. It also has the late war Einheits version of the cab, (wood cab). An Eduard PE set was used for that extra touch of detail. The hood was cut open and most of the detail scratch built for the engine. All the windows were replaced with thin clear plastic so that the side windows could be cut and posed open. Model Master paints and Tamiya Weathering master pigments finished it off. In the bed is the Dragon 1/35 scale 3cm Flak 38/103 Jaboschreck. The trailer frame is from the Dragon kit while the box is scratch built.
Hope you enjoy, any thoughts about improving for the next one are welcome
Thanks for looking in
Dale

Had a little trouble with the photos size in the first attempt, these seem to have turned out a bit better.
Thanks for your patience

Dale;
Awesome!
That's the coolest! I've been looking for someone to do a build of one of these late-war types - it was interesting to see that the Germans did multiple alternative-fuel approaches on a variety of vehicles- training panzers and halftracks powered by compressed "stadtgas" and propane, halftracks and trucks and cars with "holzgas" burners, and a smaller number of vehicles with coal-gas burners, such as your Opel. And I have been thrilled to see some kitted-up in styrene!
From your build, looks like Italeri has at least put forth a good beginning for this type!
Way to go! And plopping that jaboschreck and a few casings in back is cool, too!
I do have one question, though, it being a "coal-gas" burner... you have stocked in some cut wood (fire-starter stuff?), but no coal!
Cheers!
Bob

Many thanks for the complements guys
Pablo, glad you like the build.
Heya Bob, It seems to me that Italeri did a good job on this type of Opel. Build really went smooth.
The only real issue I had was that the doors didn't have the option of being opened (like their metal cab variants). And.... I didn't have the guts to try cutting these open and destroy the rivet detail. Wasn't sure I could put that back.
I had read somewhere that these burners could "roast" the wood and use the gasses from that instead of coal. But with my memory I could easily be wrong, so I played it safe and put the wood on top of the box where I figured the coal would be kept. But you've got a point, should have dropped in a few loose chunks of coal around the front of the bed. Good eye on ya
Thanks again
Dale

Nice work Dale! I've been trying to figure out what to do with my Opel coal engine kit, and you have provided excellent motivation

Hi Dale
First of all, I have to say what a beautifyl piece of work you have done. It looks fantactic! Nice paintjob and weathering.
Secondly, This idea is almost the same thing I came up with, for my coal engine Blitz. Isn't that funny, the only difference is, that I used a 20mm FlaK, insted of the Jaboshcreck. You did more , and showed the engine, which looks awesome. I even placed spare "fuel" (wood) with an axe on top of it, exactly like yours.... Kind of scary, really!
Anyway, I'll post some pictures real soon, and we can compere.
Jacob

Thank you Jesper...
Finished up another Opel, and figured I'd add into this post.
There's been a little while between these two builds. Both are Italeri though, I've got the new Tamiya Opel and will be getting the new Cyber Hobby release if I'm able.
Hope ya like

Dale,
Awesome work with those two Opel trucks.
I myself have built both kits (tamiya and Italeri), but, I would be exagerated to say they turned out only a 30% of your work.
I really like the stowage on the second one. It gives a nice touch of realism.
Thanks again for sharing.

Hi Dale
Congrats, yet another superb model. Looks really great. An yes, the Blitz from Cyber Hobby really looks nice, but it will probably be very pricy. Did you see my Blitz w. FlaK? What do you think?

Many thanks gentlemen, I really appreciate the feedback.
Pablo, have you posted any pics of your Opel's? I'd really like to see 'em.
Jacob, I'd missed your Blitz. Been looking here in softskins for it, but I found it now. (Went through your profile to follow your posts) I think yours turned out great bud. A whole different personality to it but, just like you said, the similarities are uncanny.
I'm getting ready to pre-order the new Cyber Hobby Opel. Wasn't too bad on price actually... Found it for $40 U.S. Supposed to be released in December. Just wish I could afford about 6 more of 'em
But first up, there's an Opel Maultier in the stash that I'm thinking about starting on. Along with the ongoing Sherman Easy 8 build, and a certain Katyusha I've sorta stalled on for right now.
Talk to ya'll later folks, take care
Dale
