That's an interesting look for our "new" tanks. What details do you know about this variant?

There are upgrades added from all the lessons learned from the Canadian and Danish Leopards in Afghanistan....all the stuff that the crews need to keep safe and keep performing at 100%....better armour and the tanks should be mounting plows, rollers, and dozer blades.

Will the dozer blades be an electric over hydraulic arrangement like the Leopard C-2's?

I think the dozers and plows are simply the same ones used on the Leopard C1/C2.....they have just modified the attachment points and the mounts.....the same thing was done to adapt the mine rollers to the 2A6M CAN.

So with rebuilt or reconditioned A4's and talk about a replacement or supplement to the Badger will the Beaver's be replaced or will they have to soldier on?

Good question. The Engineers have a planned "Mobility Enhancement Project", or words to that effect. I would guess that includes MTV-E, and possibly AEV-II...but I have not heard of a AVLB replacement.
Why plan when you can react?

There is a project to replace the Badger AEVs with a new one based on the Leopard II chassis. There is definitely no replacement planned for the AVLB.

Do you know if it will be similar to the current AEV used by Switzerland? I've got the Leopard II book here at home and the vehicle they use has a three piece backhoe style articulating boom mounted in the front centre of the vehicle instead of on the right hand corner of the machine. Plus the dozer blade is a bit different it almost appears that it can be angled to right or to the left. Either way they're pretty neat machines.

Oh well..from what I was told, I thought that we'd be keeping the 2A6M's and would just upgrade 20 2A4's to 2A6M standard to give to the Germans. Now I have a funny looking single colour, refurbished 2A6M CAN on my shelf. I still enjoyed building it...

Any idea when these are going to hit the model scene?

Hey Brad,
From listening to the armour guys at the last meeting I think the only difference between the two is a sliding hatch instead of a pivoting hatch on the hull. They are the same shape, they just open differently.

Many more differences than that........
To start with, it is a Leo 2A4, not an A6, so right off the bat, a shorter barrel. (The L44 I believe)
Completely different armor package than the 2A6M has, as well supposed to be an upgraded fire control, even more advanced that what the 2A6M has. And those are just major differences.
Thanks!

I knew I'd be corrected if I had it wrong.
I am retired airforce but these guys I was listening to don't have an excuse, they are all current army.
I must have missed part of the conversation.

No Gary, you had it right - they were talking about the hull, besides the driver's hatch the basic hull itself didn't change much. Probably slightly different armoured side skirts and glacis armour. The turret is where all the major differences are - that's the part you might have missed

. Hopefully some pics start coming from A'stan soon...

I did some searching and found this today, perhaps I should start a different thread but it's the same chassis.

LOL..No matter Gary, it's not the first time I was steered wrong by army guys. ;^) Heck, I am a sailor, and should be building ships, but I just can't seem to get into that genre. Back to planes for me I guess (after I finish my Churchill) :^P
Cheers
