Here are some shots of my fully built KV-2. There may be a couple of little things I do based on suggestions received here, but otherwise she is ready for priming and painting. I used Trakz roadwheels, Friulmodel drive sprockets (and tracks even though they aren't shown), Eduard fenders, Eduard PE details, Armo barrel, Moskit exhausts, Modeling Artisan Mori resin bits (machine gun mounts and horn), and I plan to use an MV lense for the headlight. The tool boxes on the fenders were scratch built using sheet plastic, sheet aluminum, and Eduard PE bits.

Looking good Adam! I now see what you meant about Russian tanks being "full of bolts". The Moskit exhausts add a lot of detail too.

avukich,
Very nice piece of work this. KV's (I & II's) are my favorite vehicles - and you have turned out a splendid example here. I look forward to seeing this painted up. Very clean built with no overkill on the detail. How detailed are the Trakz roadwheels as I have never seen any of these close up.
Excellent!

Lee--The Trackz wheels are very nice are are perfectly detailed according to all pictures and line drawings I have compared them to. The only drawback to them is that the casting plug is a bit large and you can end up with a flat spot on the wheel just trying to get it off. Luckily you can face that part of the wheel dowward.
Sure. Why not?

Adam, great looking start..almost a shame to throw paint on all those different types of materials used in the build.
How was the fit of the Eduard fenders?

Here are some shots of my fully built KV-2
Hi avukich!
Nice looking KV -- one of my favorite "pieces of steel". But one comment about the turret: at KV-2 tanks all the edges were sharp, w/o that 45 degree cutoffs Tamiya did at the kit. Also the side vision slot must be some millimeters forvard -- it's center must be at one line with the rear part of crawling cramps. And about the hull -- KV-2's hull roof lack that V-shaped guard in front of turret.
Best regards
Lis

Adam
Another fine example of your fantastic work on models. A really clean built and nice exterior upgrades. Highlights I like are the weldings around the "steps" (don`t know really another word for it) on the turret, The metal exhausts and the scratchbuilt stowage/tool boxes from wich the bended one is lovely.
One thing I like to know is: on both of the drivesprockets is a seam visible. Is that the way they are made or is that something that needs to be retouched.. As far as necessary as 2/3 of the sprockets will be covered with the tracks.
Further I really love to see this beast painted It will be a stunning one with all these nice details

How was the fit of the Eduard fenders?
The Eduard fenders fit great. The only things I don't like about the fenders are the seems because they come in two pieces and the way they engineered the "lip" on the edge of the fenders (all of the other "L" shaped parts were one piece that you bent whereas the most prominent one was in two pieces and impossible to use -- that is why I used a thinned Plastruct L bracket instead.
Lis -- Thanks for the information. I noticed the "V" shaped problem too late in the build process and decided to leave it due to being too afraid of messing up what I had already done trying to fix it. I will most certainly be removing it on any future Tamiya KV-2s I build (and there are some in the future such as the model 1939). The major problem with the Tamiya hull is that it is based off of the Aberdeen KV-1 hull which has a number of non-standard features that Tamiya faithfully copied without doing any further research such as the turret ring splash guards on the front and rear and the add-on armor on the front of the hull which wasn't on early KVs such as the KV-2.

I did take steps to hide the seem in the part of the drive sprocket that is visible by using super glue to fill it. Thanks for pointing that out though. Had I forgotten I would have been kicking myself once I had paint on.
All -- Thanks for the compliments and suggestions.

Adam,
Nice to see your master work again. The KV II looks great with all AM added on. Is it a Tamiya KV II?
Can't wait to see it finished and painted.

Yes it is the old Tamiya kit. In hindsight it would have been much better to bash this kit with one of the Eastern Express ealry model KV-1 kits to get a more accurate hull, but I didn't realize how inaccurate the hull was until much too late.

nicely detailed treads :-) You might want to add some weathering pastels...that would set it off nicely. Flawless paint job and build

Nice work so far Adam. I know this kit is a bit rough, but with all the extras you've put into it, it looks like the finished kit will be awesome.
Cheers !

Nice build and finish Adam. Im a fan of these heavy russian beasts as well. Great job on the trax also. A bit in the under-weathered/clean side for my personnal taste, but nothing that takes away from a superb model. Good to see you back omboard again! Hows the scratched houses coming along?

Hey Adam, how have you been?
This is an excellent KV2, the detail is superb. All of the additions are worthwhile and really add to the overall effect.
As for painting, great job as well, very clean and well applied.
We do not always agree on weathering though, so I will not go there :-)
Take it easy,
Andrew

Excellent build Adam!
This ugly piece of armor couldnīt look any better. I think it requires balls even to attempt single colour scheme on a big tank like this. Pastels would add some life to it, but if you are going to display it just as it is without groundwork on a simple wooden plate, donīt touch it!
Itīs a perfect display model like this.
Always nice to see your work!

I guess that second set of pictures didn't come out that well because I used plenty of pastels on this thing. Before using pastels it was a lot darker green and I put a heavy coat of pastels on to make it look dusty from traveling the dirt roads in summer. I guess I need to go back over it with more pastels or take new pictures.
