Yo Friends,

A few months ago I started with this diorama, since that time I haven't do mutch on the project. Just the house is finished on the exterior, the interior has do be done from scratch...but that's for later.
Some of you have seen this work on my blog...but since quit a time now, no progress, execpt the command car.

So, lets pic this one up where we left it...

First some pics to give a empression of the work that's already been done.

Starting with the base

A home made waterpit.

The command car.

The house.

How it looks now...

Feel free to commnent.

More to come, stay tuned!

Hi Nico,

Nice work so far. Does the black Dog load fit over the radio box? It looks like a nice set. The well and house are looking good. I'm not sure how often they might have passed by habitation though, they mainly operated in the barren desert but quite possible depending upon the setting.

Keep up the good work.

Al

Yo Friends,

thanks for the fast replys.

@Callmehobbes Thanks, figures will be a mix of some brands...world miniatures have a couple of nice sets.

@Pat, Thanks also...update will be come soon

@Alan, Yes the cargo fits nicely over the radiobox, only a minor sanding on the bottom of the cargoset. They did pass indeed not mutch near habitation...but if the story from the diorama gets clear you will see why they pass this particular house.

Hi Nico. The painting and weathering of the house fills this diorama with plenty of promise already. I like the "just thrown in" appearnace of the Black Dog stowage. Looking forward to more updates.

One of my favorite subjects! I love the idea for the diorama. New World figures are good for this, but I think with your talent anything you bring to this will give it 'pop'. Keep going!!!!

A really neat build of the Chevvy.

I get so frustrated that Tamiya won't re-release that kit. There is a massive appietite for it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this diorama come together!

Nico,

Really nice work so far and the building looks great. Any chance of letting us know what you did to paint it?

Looking forward to seeing the next instalment.

Thanks Nico,

Graham at Resicast was talking about doing some LRDG stowage so I've kinda been holding off to see what else comes along.

Why no one else has porduced one of these vehicles is beyond me, with Tamiya's occasional issue of a Limited Addition a readily available updated kit would sell hand over fist, even moire so now with a good variety of figuers becoming available.

Yo friends,

@Bruce, thanks for your reply

@Frank, yes indeed the black dog stowage kit is very fine and a real eyecatcher for the command car.

@milvehfan, thanks!

@Peter, Thanks a lot for the nice words!

@Sal, The litlle rocks came from a fish bowl set a bought it in the well now IKEA store here in Europe.

@Darren, I see you have the WM figs range in stock, that's good to now!

@Andy I will sure explain how I painted the house...but thats for later....I used a lot of different transparant layers to come to the base color...the final result is achieved with weathering, oils, pigment, washes...

@Alan, It was indeed hard for me to find one of the last kits...this kits sure needs some updates sets, it's needs this, to make it even more atractive.

Yo Friends,

A very tiny update...but I'am very proud that my homemade waterpit ( the one you can see in this topic) that I made for the LRDG diorama has turn out to a master for the African and Middle Eastern well from the Dutch " Reality in scale" company!

The kit contains 7 resin parts, miniature rope, metal rods and instructions.

More info at: http://www.realityinscale.com/

Next on is to work this well into the diorama...but that's for later...I need to scratch first a palmtree, also for this diorama. If this is ready I have all the parts to fill up the setting, so I can pour on the groundwork on the base...

please stay tuned!

Everything looks terrific. Makes me want to go out a buy one of those Miniart buildings. only thing I can think of that could be an improvement would be to add about another inch to the front of the base as it would give you a little more room between the well and the building. Very, very, nice. Thanks for sharing......... :........Al)

Hey Nico, Congradulations on the well being used for a company master. Nicely done too. I think the paint job you have done on the house is great. Waiting to see more of this one. Good job.

Yo Friends,

Yes!! update on the LRDG diorama....or beter, "Le Barbier du désert" diorama.

To give the dio some green tought I scratch a palmtree with putty....actually I made tree palmtrees. My intention was to put a least two trees on the base...but after some dryfitting whit two trees I reject that idea...over to plan B, one tree, the largest of the tree I build.

The palmtree recieved a groundlayer, basecolor, some filters, washes...the usual stuff...the leaves are from Joefix Studios and are glued in position with ca glue.

Some dust work to go now and later the final blending on the base...

And here some pics from the command car that also have a place on the base.

Hi Nico,

well done until now, nice colors overall.
Perhaps adding one or two dry branches on the palm would be good.

That will be indeed a great thing to add for color, detail and reality!

Thanks for the tip!

Nico - Awesome looking diorama, nicely composed.

Possible suggestion: replace the barrel on the 50 cal, the LRDG used machine guns sometimes salvaged from machine guns. Master Models does make a brass replacement that has the cooling holes / sleeve for the entire gun that I'll be using for a SAS jeep.
